We can’t have all the good things at one time, else we would grow vain. The news from the crops all over the country is exceedingly good, the grain crops have been excellent and the present growing crops promise well, and tbe naval store business is flourishing, but somehow the bottotn seems to have fallen out of the lum ber busiuess. Take courage, lumber men, for “ ’tis a long lane that has no turning."' As a sick mule belonging to Mr. Fred Huzlehurst was lying by the roadside netir the city, where he had been left by his driver until lio could return for him, a wicked buzzard perched himself upon the head of the prostrate beast and deliberately proceeded to pluck out his eye, as is thoir usual custom. When the driver returned ho found his buzzardship thus perched and pulling away at the' eye. The new bakery and confectionery of Mr. A. E. Heins, at corner of New castle and Monk streets, is cleverly on its way. Now lot Mr. L. C. M. put up a nice building on his lot ou the northeast corner of the same streets, and Mr. C. one on the south west corner, and that particular lo cality of «>11r towu will bo materially improved in appearance. These would call for some other changes that would bo beneficial. ~~ Our B. &l A. Mail*. Our article iu last issue about Mr. Tison’s paper not ranching him iu season elicited from Mr. J. Mason Rice, postmaster at Jamaica, this ex planation : He says that Jamaica be ing the first post office on the roud, the mail is not always distributed by the time it reaches that poiut, and pa pers for Jamaica are frequently car ried by and brought bnck ou the evening train. Mr. T. sends for his mails every morning except Sunday, so failing to get it Saturday for the reasou assigned, it lies over Till ho souds on Mouduy. Now if this he tbe solution, theu the blame belongs else where. The fault would seem to be with the routo agent, who goes up ev ery Saturday uiorniug. It does seem to us from the time the mail is put aboard the train to the arriving time at Jamaica is sufficient to distribute all tlie B. k A. mail nnd more be set >. If the fault be as stated above, we trust something will he dune by tti authorities to straighten up the matter. Married. At the residence of the bride's mother, in Waynesville, Ga., on the 16tb inst., by Rev. A. C. Ward, Mr. R. Stewart Mclver, of Brunswick, to Miss Lula Morton Wiggius, <>f Waynesville. The groom has many warm friends in our city, and the bride, •Hiring re cent frequent visits, has also, by her gentle and winning ways, firmly es tablished herself iu the affections of a large circle of acquaintances, all of whom unite with us in extending to the young couple best wishes for a long life of prosperity and happiness. It is always a beautiful and pleasing sight to see a young couple embark upon the sen of life together, promis ing to share each other’s fortunes, “for better or for worse,” aud on the present occasion it is rendered pecu liarly so from the fact that this is probably oue of the handsomest cou ples ever united in this section. Glynn County Academy. At the regular meeting of the Board of Education of Glynn county, on June 12th, ou motion of J. M. Dex ter, n resolution was passed appoint- tho three city members of the Board a committee, President John T. Collins, chairman, to solicit from the citizens of Brunswick and vicini ty subscriptions for the purpose of en larging and refitting the white school house with improved school desks.— This is a move in the right direction, and we trust our people will respond liberally to the call made on them fat so worthy an object. The members of tho Board sub scribed eighty dollars on the spot. We will take pleasure in publishing the names of tho subscribers to the fund, that our readers may see who are the real friends of education our fair city, and we hope the com mittee may be able to make the old academy a credit to the place instead of the rookery it now is.
