Presentation.
On lost Sabbath afternoon, at the
Jose of the Presbyterian Sabbath
School exercises, one conld but no
tice the different expressions on the
faces of those present. On some was
j ]<jok of expectation of something be
ing brought to light, while on others
jBe could plainly see that they were
in the dark as to what was to come.
Daring the singing of the last hymn
the Superintendent left his position
near the organ (an unusual thing for
iiiui to do), and us the last notes of
the organ were dying away, he placed
on the table a package, and requested
silence. Rev..Mr. Waddel then rose,
mil taking the mysterious package,
addressed Mrs. Cook, tha organist, as
follows: “Mrs. Cook, it iB with doep
egret wo recognize the approach of
the hour that severs your connection
ith our church and Sabbath School.
The uncertainty of human life makes
all separations painful.
•* When forced to part from those we love,
Thonfth sure to meet to*morrow,
We yet a kind of anguish prove,
And feel a touch of sorrow;
lint, oh I what words can paint the fears
When from those friends we sever—
perhaps t<> part for months, for years—
P-rhaps to part for ever.
"You see before yon to-day faces
that, in all Unman probability, you
will see no more. ’Tis this that ren
ders sud the parting. In behalf of
the church and Sabbath school, I pre
sent those iu token of their high ap-
pieciafiou of your labors with and for
de-ia, and with this testimonial of
their regard, they beg that yon will
Ileal with you to your far-off North
ern home t.he assurance that you will
ever live iu the hearts and memories
• >f the friends you leave behind.” 1
Mr. \V. then presented her with a
handsome silver toiler set and cup,
with her initials, “I. J. C.” ongravod
on each. To say that she was sur
prised rloas not begin to express it,
for, although she had seen the pack
age, she supposed it was some reward
to bo offered to the school, and knew
no better until her name was men
tioned. Her reply came from the
heart:- “To say that I am surprised
doe-, not., iu any degree oonvoy my
feelings. I assure you that I thank
you for this more than I can express.”
The church and school will feel and
deeply regret her departure. Her
voice, for sweetness of tone and clear
ness of articulation, could be ensily
distinguished among a thousand, and
as organist she is second to none
in the State that we have bad tbe
good fortune to hear.

This is not the off year for a rattle
snake or alligator crop on tho Island.
St Simons has at least five huudred
dogs, and one sheep farm of twenty-
five head.
John Carrie hjrs just received one
hundred head of fine sheep to butch
er for the St. Simons tooth.
Another shipment of Currie’s marsh
ponios was received last Friday, and
among them several mares and colts.
This is a move in the right direction.
At the hot supper given last Satur
day, tho usual side show gave an en
tertainment, but as the darkeys' skins
were tough and tho razors dull, no
damage resulted.
It is a trade maxim: Tho prosperi
ty of a place is measured by the ratio
of Jews to the population. Then St.
Simons comes to the front with a bad
showing—not a resident Israelite on
tho Island.
The Northern and European mar
kets being overstocked with Southern
yellow pine does not effect, iu the
least, shipments from St. Simons

abundant, farmers busy, huokleber-

Now, up to the present, writing, June
15th, not a ripe peach on St. Simons,
uor a prospect of cue for tbe next
month. ,,, . ,
Query. Is St. Simons a part of
Georgia.
Wanted, at the office of the Justice
Court, tile following darkeys, none of
whom are worth offering a reward for:
Cato Bichardson, lareqp v.
Charles Green, larceny.
Henry Taylor, stabbing.
Henry Murphy, cheating and swin
dling.
John Taylor, disturbing the public
kind oyer given in Brunswick. It is
to be regretted that the audience was
so small, us the object for which the
entertainment was given should have
called out every person interested in
the prosperity of our town, aud tho
cause of education. Tin re seems to
have been some misundiTstaudiug as
to tho date-of tho entertainment,
which prevented quite a number from
attending. In view of Joe fact that
such a misunderstanding existed, tho
ladies and gentlemen participating
have kindly consented to give anoth
cr performance on Tuesday night, t he
20tb inst., when it is hoped that L;ari-
osu Hall will be crowded to its utmost
capacity, and a goodly sum realized
for the “Academy Building Fund.”

comfortable sclmyl building for their
ohildreu, let tlioin turn out) and,
while enjoying a musical .treat, con
tribute to tho fund for the putting of
tho present unsafe, unsightly, uncom
fortable academy building iu such
a condition that their children will
bo provided with comfortable, healthy
school rooms and modern desks and
furniture, w. 11 as making the build
ing a credit to our town instead of
what it is now—a disgrace.
