The merchants of Griffin desired to

trade bad been injured by the prohi

A gentleman who felt interested took
a paper around town and asked an
expression from each dealer as to the
effect upon his business. Without ex

had worked no harm, while many
bore witness to its benefits—some say

BRUNSWICK HARBOR IN CON
GRESS.
We clip the following from the At
lanta correspondence of the Savannah
News:
“It is a mistake to suppose that the
harbor of Brunswick has not been
properly brought to the notice of Con
gress, the government at Washington
or the people of the country general
ly. All the early surveys and explo
rations of the coast seem to have ta
ken in that harbor, and its superior
advantages have been always given a
prominent place in the official pub
lished reports. As early as December
13, 1836, in tho House of Representa
tives, the following appear,s in the
Congressional proceedings:
‘Mr. Dawson, of Georgia, said
that a few days since a gentleman
from Massachusetts (Mr. Lawrence;
had made a reference to the Commit
tee on Commerce, in relation to the
city and port of Brunswick, in Geor
gia. In connection with that subject
Mr. D. held in his hand some inter
esting information in relation to the
growing importance of that place, and
such informrtion as would go to allow
that the State of Georgia has on her
shore ono of the best harbors and
ports on the South Atlantic coast.—
He, therefore, begged leuve to pre
sent it lo the House, and asked, that
it oe referred to the Committee on
Commerce, and ordered to be printed
which was accordingly done. The
document contained the report of the
commissioners appointed by the Leg
islature of Georgia fo examine the
harbor of Brunswick and the survey
of Mr. Baldwin of the canal and rail
road leading to Brunswick.’ ”

the capers of the Republicans to get
rid of the mighty Grant. He seems

pensioning Grant. He has enough
money now, and, besides, he left the
army long ago for civil life. Away

Dear Sir—I very cheerfully recom
mend the GILDER PILLS as posses
sing all the virtues ascribed to them
in the circulars which envelope the
boxes that contain them. Their no
tion is gentle and lasting. I say this
from personal 'experience and from
what I have heard otbors say who
have used them. No bettor and more
effectual medicine could be desired by
tboso who suffer from a torpid condi
tion of the liver, and I trust you will
have still greater success in distribnt-

suffer from a derangement of that or
