It was fitted np with fur niture valued at about $4,000. Very little was saved. The entire insurance on residence and furniture was about $4,000. ' ^ In our recent notice of the new car put up at the B. & A. shops, we should have mentioned that all the castings for said car were put up-at tbe foun dry of Messrs. Burns & Daniels, of this city. The car is, therefore, em phatically a Brunswick institution.— In this connection we might mention that there is some talk of building some passenger coache^: 1 We should be glad to see such a work begun. dad know just how to soli goods. B. Emery. The many friends of Mr. D. B. Em ery, an old citizen of Brunswick, will be pained to learn of nis death, which occurred on Sabbath last at his camps near the Satilla, on the B. & A. Rail road. Mr. Emery has been for years an employe of that road in the capac ity of bridge builder, in which busi ness he was an expert. - His last 'wife died a few years ago, leaving behind her thied"tittle girls. These kind friends have eared for, with the fa ther’s assistance, till now, when he has been called away and they left orphans Hfideed, bat Rot without friends, who will care for and protect them until able to take eare of them selves. Mr. Emery bos been a bright Mason for years, and, at his request, ’was fflH^Lby the fraternity with Ma- e leaves, as a legacy tb bis children, a life marked for its building about tbe i in bis new first of Dext i^jBensbiciefinZ .snc* . tnW the ‘ bottom was going to new Crovatt building is fast will soon begin ’neat residence on The Artesian >Vell. It may be, and no doubt is, of in terest to our home readers to know tbe true status of the above move ment. At tbe earnest Bolictation of °nr pew?Cl Aty pAp&fae taken the matter in band and'atd in vestigating the same, At e meetnig on Monday last of council and citizens, propositions • were made by a Mr. Clay an artesian well borer, bnt it Vras determined to defer any definite ac tion nntjjl more light conld be thrown on the aubject Three things were desired. First, to see about what would be the probable cost, whether $1,000 or $10,000; next what ar rangement could be made as to pay ment, and third, whether an artesian well has ever been sunk successfully on the Atlantic coast. Neither Mr. Clay nor the committee of connoil could give any positive answer to tbe first inquiry. Mr. Clay oflered to furnish three hands besides himself and do the work at eight dollars per day, the city to furnish piping, en gine, drills, etc., but could give no guarantee that he would find water nor that he wonld be throngh in thirty days or three years. The next thing to arrange wonld be tbe finding tbe cash. The city never has more than a few hundred surplus dollars in tbe treasury at any one time, hence other arrangements must be made, j in short an extra tax must be levied, are tbe people willing for this? As to tbe third point there seems to be nothing definite. The water from the wells at Charleston some said was not good to drink. The one in Boston was abandoned years ago, eto., with all this uncertainty before them, the council thought advisable and so did a majority of the citizens present to wait for further light, meanwhile the committee was instructed to get all the data possible before another meeting of Council.
