Editor Advertiser and Appeal: Cooifo^^^S House, at the above popular resort, is your correspondent, drinking spring wlter ami talking Brunswick, fcr w l,i,.|i laid peculiarity lie has, proba bly. brouiiiit down upon himself the ire of hi» tel!ow„flr|u^s. The spring is a ptart rid^fi liue of tiie extension of the M. & B. Kiiilroad, ubont forty miles from Ma- C0 n. Around the spring is a little viilago of probably two hundred und fifty inhabitants, with three hotels and three or four stores, which is incorpo rated under the name of McIntosh, in honor of a famous Indian chief, who lived and reigned at this spot fifty years ago. McIntosh was a half- breed, but of great sagacity and vnlor, on which account he was made chief of the Creek Jndi^uq, ensured con- spicujusljiiti! two' ttAtta Uaan boj tweed t*Ibdians|nf^f| #fthiJ| poiut in the years 1821 and 1826. The place is full of historical interest. Two rocks are now showed to visitors as being the identical ones on which speeches were made on these two oc casions. Queaif^s^tewhrgitjirJ said, McIntosh made a great speech, is live or six feet in height and about eight long, and occupies a very prom im nt position in the principal street, aud attracts much attjention. I am astonished that' sdtno, 'adverting vtd - r ^i dal has not, ere; thty Ornanaejited it with the legend “Take Simmon’s Liv er Regulator.” Near this stone stands a building built and used by the mig’htv McIntosh fifty years ago. It is now used aS'Wjh ota* and is sqtatefi tially the same us then, very few re pairs haviug been necessary. Through the town run two small creels, unitiug a little belojw,' and in ;hb fork’of Ihetwo, dt*tno Hjottbm of lent here, and, no doubt, played greet mja i all over Me country, particular- the coast; but the wires being eea hear nothing. The heavy rein fall greatly augmented the two creeks alluded to above, and transformed them into bold streams. The spring; being just on the borders of the valley 'through, whioh one of the creeks overflowed to a depth of. at least, two feet, and it was not until late in the afternoon of Sunday that we wen* emibled to get onr accus tomed quarter-hourly drink. The other creek has, just in the centre of j >° to tad of about fifteen feet, in a very short distance, the water rushing down over the sol id rock oottom and making quite a pleasing spectacle. Just after the storm the sight was, to me—poor, ig norant, low-countryman—grand be yond description. The creek, now a mighty jiifer, dashed over the hidden rocks with a roar like thunder, throw ing the spray and foam high into the air. There is k about eight miles from here, the Towaliga falls, which are pi to be very beautiful, even in oom- v „ Lllu ^ y , „„„ ratively dry weather, and on' yes- reason why it should not be success- rOCK, e® - ***£““_“ *4 from whence tne red man is said •day the sight must have been tru ly grand. I have taken several long tramps through l lie woods nruund the spring and found many things to interest and please.^ The woodp. abound in filckory mid ;chestun ts, chincapins and a nut resembling the hickory, with the exception that it has a soft shell, and is said to surpass the pecan. The seasoo is about over and the rapidly departing for thei^ homes. The; Hder House mif about a dozen at this time/ in place of an average of, at least, one hundred during the entire summer. This falling off has been about the each of the other hotels. A gentleman has just announced that Gov. Colquitt is at the spriug.— Several have goue down to see him. For the historical facts in this letter I am indebted to an old lady, who is eighty-four years of age, and lived here when the country was inhabited by the Indians, She has a wonderful memory, and has a clear knowledge of events for more than a half-century. Around this tiny reservoir may always be seen the eager setkers after health, drinking the life-giving waters, and comparing notes as to how many pounds avoirdupois they have each gained since first they tasted this natural medloine.
