Literal Answer*.
Literal answers are sometimes quite
witty.
“Will you kindly put my fork into
a potato?” asked a young lady of her
table neighbor.
“With pleasure,” he responded;
and piercing the potato, coolly left
the fork extending from it
Again, we hear of a very polite and
impressive gentleman who said to
youth in the street
“Boy, may I inquire where Robin
son’s drug store is ?”
“Certainly, sir,” replied the boy,
very repectfully.
“Well, sir,” said the gentleman af
ter waiting awhile, “where is it?”
“I have not the least idea," said the
urchin.
There was another boy who was
stopped by an old. lady with :
“Boy, I want to go to D—street.
“Well, mndame, said the boy, “why
don’t you go there ?”
Sometimes wit degenerates into
punning, as when Flora pointed pen
sively to the heavy masses of clouds
in the sky, saying :
“I wonder where thoBe clouds are
going?”
I think they are going to thunder,”
her brother replied.
Also the following dialogue :
Holloa, there! How do you sell
your wood ?
“By the cord.”
“How long has it been cut?”
“Four feet."
“I mean how long has it been since
you cut it?”
“No longer than it is now.”
There is a church in Michigan
which uos been struck by lightning a
dozen times, and now whenever the
preacher shows signs of getting long
winded and passing from his “sev
enthly” to an “eighthly” the organist
slyly imitates the sound of approach
ing thunder on the pedals. The way
that preacher dives into the “conclu
sion” and rushes through it and starts
the doxology is a caution. The con
gregation would not part with that
organist for $1,000,000.
Did you over see a woman mail &
letter? She will undertake tq drop
it in the box, then she draws it back
and scans the directions; tries the
stamp to see if it is on fast; scrutin
izes the gummed side and runs her
tiif.-er over it once or twioe; then
gives it one or . two sudden, jerks,
which send it rapidly into the box.
She then peeps in to see if it went
through.

MALARIA
Malaria is an almost in
describable malady which
not even the most talented
physicians are able to fath
om. Its cause is most fre
quently ascribed to local
surroundings, and there is
very little question, but this
opinion is substantiated by
facts. Malaria does not nec
essarily mean chills and
fever while these troubles
usually accompany it It
often affects the sufferer with
general lassitude, accom
panied by loss of appetite,
sleeplessness, a tired feeling
and a high fever, the per
son afflicted growing weak
er and weaker, loses flesh
day after day, until he be
comes a mere skeleton, a
shadow of his former self
Malaria once having laid Its
hold upon the human frame, the
door of the system is thrown open
to nervous diseases. The body
weak and enfeebled absorbs no
nourishment, bat subsisting upon
itself, the digestive organs no
longer perform their functions;
the Uver becomes torpid, and other
organs failing to do their routine
work, speedily become disordered,
and dissolution and death are ape
to ensue.
In addition to being a certain core
for malaria and dulla and fever,
Brown’s Iron Bitters is highly
recommended for til diseases requir
ing a certain and efficient tonic; es
pecially indigestion, dyspepsia, inter
mittent fevers, want of appetite, loss
of strength, lack of energy, etc.
Enriches the blood, strengthens the
muscles, and gives new life to the
nerves. Acts like a charm on the
digestive organs. It is for sale by
all respectable dealers in medicines,
price, ft per bottle
