Their argument in that if they are shat up on Sundays other places, to-vfit: the drag stores, that sell the articles they do, should also be de prived of these privileges; that Coun cil should not make “fish of one and flesh of another;” that if it be wrong for them to sell cigars, tobacco, soda water, etc. on Sundays, it is equally wrong for others to sell The reasoningseems good, but two wrongs never make a right If it be a violation of law for these shops to remain open on Sundays, it makes it no less so for the others to do like wise, nor are they excusable. It seems that they went down to the creek to catch bait for some of the older ones to fish with. Not coining hothe Tuesday, search was made for them nett moni-' ing. Their bodies were found one St the mouth of the creek and tfaie other some half mile up it where it drifted on the flood tide of Tuesday night. Green Johnson, a colored merchant on the Island, whilst crossing the souqd this week, on board the Ruby, had the misfortune to lose his coat and two parcels of money—bills and gpeoie—several hundred dollars—in tbe sound. A stiff breeze blew them from the deck of the steamer. , Six benedicts, all sad and, forlorn, ror um u DU ™. ... r —- after ealh : morning's devotions, pull wish its to blot out tbe Counoil, we ou t their watches to note how long would say that there is no ordinance before the first of November, about of tbe city that can reach the injustice w hich time they indulge in the illu- The laws of the State al- B i v0 hope that happy conjugal re-un- ions will be established., tt 1st, Al ZmrfIlluAtwttftd ClWo|MNtBj ,HJJ 11' V> iu/.?n v'lAfio We are now ready to offer our entire stock of ' ‘ claimed. low drug stores to remain open on Sundays, which is highly right and proper, as all will agree, and no pow er of tbe Counoil can effect them, be ing licensed to do so by the State of Georgia. The law, however, never was intended to be so construed as to allow tbe-privilege of making it-a day of commercial gain, but rather for the convenience of the sick. If, there- froe, ehefiroprietors of these places have made it other than what was in tended, then they render themselves amenable to the laws of the State, as we took at it, and not of the city. The 1 Grand Jury then would be the ones to take cognizance in the matter. We think the whole thing could be amicably and pleasantly arranged by the united action of the druggist in coming promptly forward and, of their own accord, pledging themselves to eell nothing but medicines on Sunday, or, better still, for themselvee and tbeir clerks arrange among themselve for only one drug store (or say. two) to be open each Sabbatb. We ccder- etimd some of them have already ex pressed a willingness for this. This is tbe plan adopted in other cities, wby can’t we do likewise? Several young friends at tbe Mills are anxiously awaiting for the auspi cious winds of winter to hasten their matrimonial alliances. Little Miss Nellie Forsyth, our St. Simons juvenile traveler, has reached her friends and relatives in Pennsyl vania. The Wm. Hays, on which she embarked for New York, a part dt the time experienced a very rough sea.— Whilst old and young were sick al most unto death, “Little Nel,” as she was familiarly called, stood most of the time -on deck like a soldier. As strictly confidential, we have real rhymster on St Simons—a genu ine machine poet Miab has pioked up the following, written in a bold band from his pencil. It was our pleasure last Thuroday to hear the speech of Col. Hardoman at our fair grounds. He set out with the broad principle that he was not there fn the interest of self, but of the great party he represented.
