Let’s elect him on the 7th of November with a rousing majority. Onr yonng friend James O’Connor undertook the work this week of rais ing funds to enclose the park in front of the Baptist church iu this city, so prompt was the reponse of those whom ke asked for aid that be hopes to have the whole work completed in a week’s time. This prompt action lays the work of the Bark Association completely in the shade; Harry np, ladies. s Among the arrivals of the week are the three masted schooners E. 8. Poweli, of Littlefield it ^ison’s packet line, with a heavy cargo of merchan dise ior this city, and merchants in the interior, and the Moses B. Bram- h all, with cargo of 450 tonB of kainitt ta'(ittX9Xv fef{n&r), for Messrs. 8- Mayer A Glauber of this city. This we believe is the first cargo of this kind ever landed here not on con signment, but. owned by onr home merchants. II3 but a foittitbner of other similar shipments. The extra bigb tides of this week have caused the average marsh hen to seek something tall to stand on, the tops of the marsh grass being just above water. Regatta island was a perfect sea of water, boats with bunting parties sailed all over it and woe be to that marsh ben that failed to find a place to bide. Bang, bang, bang, went tbe guns of sportsmen all ver the marsh and down came tbe irds. Tbe sport was enjoyed by quite a number who were fortunate enough to command a boat and fire arm^3 ■ Bold But Dainty Thief. The store of Mr. A. E. Wenz was entered Inst Wednesday night and de spoiled of a, lot of cigars, a cigar holder, a razor, a ham and a backet of eggs. Mr. WillieEvans, tbe clerk, returning about 12 o’clock found him in tho store and followed him to the front end where he could pluinly see him—so bright was the moon light through the show window. Ho fired on him ns he stood full before the vyindow. At the sound of the pistol the fellow doubledfpplhimself and went throngh the glass like a battering ram and disappeared. Tbe eggs were left in the back yard, hav ing been carried out before and de posited. He was cortainly a dainty chap os all bo apponred to want was a clean shave, aj bom and egg break fast and a long all day smoke. We JidpcM hear that he wax bit by that ballet. ' The Anatomy ot The Foot. Persons having well formed per fect feet, freo from corns, bunnions etc.,-langh at the idea of “anatomical" shoe makor as has been advertised in theso colums. They think tho idea nil nonsense, but ono annoyed with the abovo excrescences or whoso foot is deformed, rejoices to know tbnt there ii an anatomy to tho foot and tbnt some men understood that anato my and can ronke a shoe or boot to conform with those irregularities. Of this number we can safely men tion Mr. G. H. Morrifield of tbe firm of Moore & Morrifield, who has tbe anatomical impress of men’s feet from almost every State iu tho Union, who send all tbe way to Brunswick to have him make their shoes. Departed this Lite. Mr. Adolph David, formerly of this eity, died at his residence in Graham Go., on Saturday the 23rd iast., at 2:30 o’clook p. m., of typhus fever af ter an illness only of ten days. In terment of tbe body took place on last Monday at Savannah under the anspioes of Independent Order B’nia B’ritb, of which he was a member. His many good qnalities made him universally beloved by all. Generous to the heart’s core, upright and hon orable in his transactions, kind and conrteon8 in his bearing towards nil, is it to be wondered that his demise should be so greatly mourned ? On tbe 16tb of October I will open my new stock of millinery goods on the upper floor of Moore & McCrary’s new brick building. Look out for my advertisement next week. Mrs. M. O. Rowe. October 4th. This estab lishment—which, by tbe way, will compare with any in tbiB section of the State—is located in the Dixon building on Newcastle Btreet, where can be found anything and every thing in the drag line. Parties visit ing the city and needing drags should give Mr. Blain a oall. Meanwhile, don’t forget that his soda is par ex- cdlence, as he nses none bnt. the best materials and the purest syrups.
