I Every two yearp the post ofifce de partment revises .the list of offices througljotit the country, and changes the . rating of . each, in accordpnpe with latest reports received, and by this rating the salary of the post paster and other important matters are determined. These classes are fqur in number. Tho first c’ass re ceive ealnries of $3 000 eind over per apnum i,Ab® second cluas receive sala ries raDgiDg from two to three thous and per annum ; the . t^ird claps re ceive from one to two thousand, and the fourth class receive less than one thousand per annum. Of the first class there are ip Georgia three—At lanta, Savannah and ' Augusta ; of the second class there are four— Athens, Columbus. Macon and Rome, of the third class tbPre are twenty, and of the fourth class there are 1,209. Brunswick ranks in the third grade, nnd by the lost revision/Above allud ed to (wbioh has just occurred) our post master’s salary has been increas ed $100 per annum, making it now $1,700, out of which, however, he- is compelled to pay all expenses of the office. This is the largest salary ever paid this office. When Mr. Nortb assumed chprge in 1870, the salary was the princely sum of $44(i per an num. Mr. North informs us that iu everyjdepartment but that of box rent the business of this office is sufficiently largo to Beci’-e its promotion to the second grade, and that by tho next revision wo may possibly secure this advance in importance. This, ns wo understand it, will place us in posi tion to secure some of tho con- veniences of larger offices such as free delivery, etc. While on the subject of onr post offices it may not be amiss to state that, the new leek boxes wore to have arrived by yesterday’s steamship, aud will probably be put iu position to day, and be nsed to-morrow morning,' They are of the celebrated Yale mak very handsome, and per'ectly This wilt be pleasant information onr bnsinoss men, who are now pa< to the inconvenient pf , asking and waitmg for their mail. Darien Gazelle: Glynn countv has honored herself by electing J. E. Dart to the Georgia Legislature, and end now that friend Dart is c-looted, we don’t mind reminding him that he bas an important duty to perform. To be a live member of the Legis lature is no small pieco of business, but we really believe that Jake is competent to fill tho bill. We are betting on him anyway.
