He bu not slept tor five consequently an objeet of cariorily.— He is a merchant and is the proprie tor of a very good business. The physicians are investigating the caus es of Mr. Tappan's insomnia, but can not ns yet understand its causes. A mail and express reportsr called upon Hr. Tappan yesterday and found him standing behind the counter of bis store. In the course of conversation Mr. Tappan said that it bad been more than six months since he had bad any sleeft He was apparently in good health, and does not complain of his singular disease. He is about fifty-five years old, weighs one bun dred and sevebty pounds, and is of large stature. He has several grown sons and daughters. He says bis loss of sleep dates from a severe ‘illness from which be suffered nearly six months ago.
