HARTFORD, CONS.
This week was court week. Almost
nil St. Simons was in some manner
in tore sfefl; So’nlttfdfit'every man pre
pared to visit Brunswick during the
week. Most of us went over ou Tues
day to find, to our infinite disappoint
ment, that Judge Mershon had ad
journed the court till some time next
month. We will all be over again in
time en mssse.
St. Simons light is in splendid or
der. Keeper Asbell and his assistant
Keaton, claim that tbe tower is whit
er than lime itself, uud tbe lamp
brighter than n new one ever dared
to be.
Tbe schooner Efliu J. Simmons left
our port last week for New York with
a cargo of yellow pine. Her super
cargo was a stick fifty feet long, twen
ty-eight inches square, weighing about
niue thousand* pounds.
Several new families have moved to
the Island during tbo last two weks.
Ice a quarter inch thick last week.
Cabbage planting is tbe order of
the day from one end of tbo Island to
the other.
At least four milliou feet of lumber
iu the St. Simons Mills yards.
St. Simons Mills cut one hundred
and nine thousand feet of first-class
lumber not long since within ten
hours.
Schooner Wm. Hayes, Captain
Smith commanding, is iu port again.
She. brings sash, doors, and other
bhilding material for six additional
cottages to be built at St. Simons

A line having been advertised from
Bruuswick to Florida, via this place,
requiring passengers to remain over
night here, nnd the inference from the
advertisement being thnt all such par
ties cau be furnished hotel accommo
dations, it is bnt just to those who
patronize the line, as well ns to tbe
residents hero, thnt the traveling pub
lic should know there is no hotel at
this point. The buildings already
erected by tbo Georgia Lnud and
'Lumber Company nt this landing
(which is R privnti one) are insuffi
cient to accommodate the employes
and all connected with tho business,
and it is tbo purpose of this Company
to -erect several more bouses forth
with, and possibly to enlarge tbe
hoarding house so Unit it nmy boused
for transient visitors in caso of neces-
ity. Meanwhile, Ufiless parties wish
ing to remain here liver night to take
the steamers, engage accommodations
in some private family before coming,
they may be sadly disappointed on
arriving, and'muy be uncomfortably
Chied for, (iwing'ta tho present limit-
fail accommodations. This has been
the ease iu some instances of kite, and
it is to prevent such misunderstand
ings, or any apparent imposition on
the traveling public, that notice is giv
en of the lack of accommodations
here. A large number of persons
have occasionally Btopped over here,
and, we uro sorry to say, some of
them of such character that no pri
vate family would williugly entertain
thorn, no matter how hospitably in
clined.
