|Tke Cats* of White. Detroit Frt* Frees. This paperVremarked one day that White was drank. Instead of rash- jog down here to annihilate some one, he waited three long days to let Lis temper cool, and then climbed [tbo stairs one step at a time, took it _iy along the ball, and entered the jditorial rooms with a benign expres sion of countenance. • When asked if be wanted an agricultural exchange, or bad an item to leave, he calmly re plied : “You stated the other day that I was drunk.” “Yes, sir.” . t “I have called to demand personal satisfaction.” “Certainly,” “I propose to maul somebody to palp, and grease my boots with the remains.” “Correct, sir." “In fact, to clean oat the ranch." “Just so.” “But not now—not until spring.— Along about April next you may look for me, and when I come you had bet ter be prepared to die 1 Good day.” “Good duy." Now, how much better that was than to come rushing in with a pistol or club, mussing up the rooms and disturbing the routine of the office. It is a favor we highly appreciate, and every member of the staff will try and live until spring, in order that Mr. White may not be disappointed when bo calls on business. A Baltimore man who bought him a farm two or three years ago was re cently approached by a friend who had some money to invest, and who asked: “Can I buy a pretty fair farm for $15,000?” “Yes, about that figure.” “And I’ll want to lay out about $10,000 in improvements, I presume.” “Yes, fully that.” “And I can invest another $10,000 in blooded stock?” • “I think you cnn.” “And $5,000 more in grading, filling up, creating fish-ponds, and so forth. “Well, you may get through with that BUU1.” “That’s $10,000; now let’s figure the income." “Oh, you don’t need pencil or pa pier,” s lid the victim, as a shadow of sorrow darkened his fnco. "The in come will be about $3 for turnips, $2 for potatoes, $5 or $0 for corn, and a bull calf or two at $3 a bead. To save time, call it $25. I’ll see you again in a day or two. Maybe I’ve forgotton something which will add a dollar or two more. Morniug to > ou '” Ail Aiiclsnl M|jaiut»t, Siuulu, Mo., Nov. 23.-Tbero ar rived this morning, in chargoof Sher iff MeCrockor, of Hickory county, an old man, whose thin sud whitened locks, bent frame and pale, wrinkled face bespoke that ho had but a few years, at best, ahead of him—and yet, old and feeblo as he is, ho was seated there in custody of an officer, a pris oner bound for the State ponitentiary, whore he has boen sentenced to serve a two years’ term. Tbo Sheriff said that the old man’s name was Robert J. Rader, and that ho bad just been found guilty of tbo crime of bigamy, receiving thorefor tpterm in tho Stato prison. Some time last July, Rador came into Hickory county from St. Clair, leaving a wife and four chil dren. He fell in love with tho widow stulmeter, and the passion was recip rocated. After a brief courtship, Ra der am} the widow were married, bo settling on her a small farm. Tho fact of ’ his having a wife came out, and be was arrested, tried and con victed. The Sheriff further stated that the widow had some six living children, and was about forty-five years of age.
