ST. SIMONS ITEMS. EDITED by MAJAB. St. SIMONS HOSPITAL FOB SICK ABB DISABLED SEAMAN. ST. SIMONS MILLS, GEORGIA EE-Tlae wante of foreign Teueli . ipecfilty. B. J. MASSET, M. D„ Manager. Last Sunday gave ns Southern weather with Northern principles. This moon waxetbj and while it waneth the wedding cake will be cut. Captain King’s many friends beg to congratulate him upon bis recent good luck. Those fortunate enough to witness it, enjoyed the sight of a most beauti ful 8uu set last Monday evening. Richard Fennick, a colored moke of decided purloining proclivities, was up before the County Court last Mon day for stealing Horace Gould’s—w —w—Christmas turkey. We are in receipt of a string of sau sage made by the fair band of one of St. Simons’ daughters. Thank you, tliaDk you! You certainly have learn ed the way to an editor’s heart. There was a very pleasant affitir at Mrs. Arnold’s boarding house last Wednesday evoning in tho shape of au old style siogiug school. The mu sic was fine and the audience enjoyed it very much. Col. Hobos, of the United States Treasury department, and lady, after spending a couple of days on the Is laud, en route to Florida, were very favorably impressed with our climate and pleasant surroundings. Thin broth nnd weak soup never made a rich'local. Now, if you want a good, nice, riob, newsy paper next issue, feed the editor upon rich, juicy steaks, fat turkey, fish aud oysters all through the holidays. Don’t all speak at once. We thank Mr. Willie Sbadman for a present of nice, rich, clear, Georgia syrup, of fine flavor aud thick as hon ey. To eat a bit of it will cure any old croaker of misanthropy. 'Friend Will made this by the evaporating process. In this connection we won dor why the girls allow some nice young men wo know of to remain sin' gle. Wnen on Christmas day you go to give thanks for your Christmas din uer, will you remember the poor odit or who bns for your benefit worked so many hours the last twelve mouths Cau you consistently lay your hand upon your heart, face the fat, baked turkey before you aud feel that you have discharged your whole duty tO' ward your fellow man if you] don't send him a nice fat piece,? Mr. W. J. Hays, of the Georgia Land nnd Lumbrr Company gives us some interesting information about his potato crop. His yield is two hun dred and seventy-three and one-third bushels per acre. This, too, with but ono working after planting. What crop for tbo amount of outlay pnys better ? This, at the low price of for ty cents per bushel, brings one bun dred nnd nine aud thirty-three one- huudredths dollars per acre, less the bare expense of scad, planting and ono plowing. A compromise between two of Cap tain King’s daughters, Misses May and Florie, was consummated last Saturday night, by jointly celebrating the anniversaries of their birth-days only four days apart. The occasion was a pleasant ono indeed. Their friends and those of their good par ents assembled in honor ot the occa sion, enjoyed themselves very much. The younger ones tripped the light fantnstic, whilst the older ones sat in the corner and lived over ngain the past in the enjoyment of their chil dren’s happiness. We but repeat the expressed sentiment of tho whole par ty in wishing Misses May and Florie many, many happy returns of this pe riod. H w 9 c+ 0 For Sale or ltcnt.
