STEALING A BEE-HIVE.
Borne. Gt* Bulletin.
By way of diversion from the old
rimti'ie, a party of South Rome gen
tlemen went to Judge H. J. Johnson’s
the other night end stole a bee-hive
while the busy little bees were snooz
ing. They carried the hive to the
woods and opened it. But there was
no honey there. The bees had just
been swarmed into the hive that day.
So the mischief takers Btarted to re
turn the hive, lu the meantime the
bees had been awaken and were good
mad. i They attacked the- thieves on
all sides, pausing them to drop -the
hive and tube to their heels. Next
iu.li ning Judge Johnson missed hie
hive and put an officer on notice to
capture it and the thieves, and the of.
ficer was not lodg in finding the gen
tlemen whom the bees had so badly
disfigured as to make it necessary for
them to stay in doors two days. They
plead guilty, and offered to pay all
da mages. Judge Johnson told them
Had Done That Himself.

pay ns ttmch attention to their gentle

brethren, and while their conversation
may not do as classical, they have a
“largo” time all the same.
A practical sboeman, who ought to
be posted, inasmuch us he hails from
Lynn, Mass., writes to the Boston
Transcript that d person Who wears a
pinching shoe with the expectation of
making n foot look smaller is much
mistaken. Tbo foot will sprend out
in any kind of a shoe, and the aize'of
a foot becomes more noticeable in a
shoe that is too small than if the
right size had leeu purchased. The
best made slues in the world wilt not
stand the strain when a person wears
a shoo too small for tbe foot. Half
tbo shoes returned for the inspection
of the manufacturers are damaged by
squeezing a large foot into a small
shoe. Shoes should not always be
bought by tbo size and width mark.
The only safe way i« to lit the foot, let
1 ho sizo be what it may. This is com ■
uratively an easy matter nowadays,

struction of lusts. A number of
widths lire furnished by well-equipped
manufacturers, the measurements be
