whatsoever, shall pay a tax of one per cent upon the

sons failing ot refusing to mako their return! un
der the several sections of this ordinance shall be
snbject, on conviction therefor before the police
court, to a flno not exceeding one hundred dollars,
or labor on the pnblic works for A term not exceed
ing thirty dsya. ;>]

to Issue executions against all persons for the

failure to promptly pay the first or other quarterly

of one per cent upon all taxable property within the
city ho collected and apuronriatod to the paymohl
of the ordinary current expenses of the city, and
tho remaining portion of tho taxes collected and ap.
propriated to the extraordinary expenses of the city
to-wit: tho payment or the principal and interest
that nuy become due danng tho year 1885, and on
the ?»omls issued for a compromise of the Indebted*
nesM of the city, and the ratting apart of the sinking
fund of one thomcind dollars for tba redemption of
the said com prom i*e bonds, edncationsl purposes,
impruventrnt of streets aud sidewalks, fire pur
poses, anr. public-buildings. . ,
