’ Tbe Storm and lb. Boats.
Cnpt. Barney Dart spent Monday
night on the dock, keeping watch
over bis various steamboats, lest some
mishap should overtake tbem. Tbe
Egmoiit, under Capt. Evans, under
took the trip to Cumberland Monday
morning, but was forced to turn back.
St. Andrews was a little too boister

trip, carrying a heavy freight and full
passenger list. Capt. Alexander so

Tbe other steamers at our docks

Hamilton, of St. Simons Mills, howev

derstand there was no one on board
to tell bow it happened.

Miss Woods is again at ber post in
tbe postofiice, but looking rather less 1
vigorous than formerly. Her illness
has palled ber down considerably.
Col. W. A. Berrie celebrated bis i
eightieth birthday on Wednesday
last. He is still halo and bearty, and
works from daylight to nine o'clock at
night, at tbe store of G. Friedlander
& Co.

children to mourn his loss.

ticular, except that we have under
stood bis disease to be “Bright’s dis
ease of tbe kidneys,” and, further,
that be took sleeper at Brunswick and
not Jesup.

Railroad is booked for a change on
to-morrow—Sunday—September 30.
On and after that date tbe night pas
senger will leave here at 7:40 p. in.,
and returning reach here at 6:10 a.
We are not informed ns to any
other cbnuges, out presume this is
tbe beginning of arrangements for
tbe winter. We certainly hope that
tbe suffering public will now get rid
of this awful run from here to Jesup.
We shall be pleased to chronicle any
cbnuges looking to a better service.
As long as tbe road makes a trip tn
Brunswick irksome just so long peo
ple will dislike to come; but tbe tide
is now flooding and we may yet have

of “broken bone” fever, left this week

Our young friend, Harry Burkuloo,
wus up at tbe upper wharves on Mon
day Inst, during tbe storm, on board
one of the vessels loading there.
When tbe wind was at its highest du
ring tbe day, tbe veseel broke ber
moorings, und drifted ont into tbe
river, where she was anchored. The
water being rough he could not get
ashore, so remained a prisoner, so to
speak, on board the vessel. Guess he #
did not lack for comforts, however, ns
sea captains know bow to treat tbeir
guests.
Hotel Tor Cumberland.
Tbe hotel boom for Cumberland
still continues, though it bns not as
yet taken definite shape. Such a
scheme is certainly on tapis, nnd ou
an extensive scale. Where' the hotel
will be focated, and wbut bench will
be used yet remains undetermined.—
In any event, howover, the public
may rest assured that even thing will
be made first-class, and Cumberland
will take the proud stand she is enti
tled to iis a watering-place, and lor
guests be numbered by thousands in
stead of hundreds.
