must agree with him.

gone to attend medical college.—
We predict for him a useful and
prominent life in his profession.
The face of Miss Woods has been

ically that whilst up there be took a
run up to Cartereville—to bny apples,
probably, or, maybe, to attend Sara
Jones’ tent meeting—or, possibly,
neither.
Mr. Micbaelis Kaiser is home again
looking well and hearty. He no
doubt enjoyed tbe trip to bin old
home in Prussia. Scores of people
came to see tbe little boy wbo came
to America seventeen years ago seek
ing bis fortune in a country where be
could be his own master, and not be
made a soldier of whenever it suited
the whims of bis master, tbe King.—
No doubt many a poor fellow looked
with euvy upon him, and silently
thought, *'oh, that I, too, could go to
that laud of freedom 1”
Our Taxes.
The following order baajbeen is
sued this week by tbe Governor,
touching the taxes for 1885. Tbe State
tax being 30 cents on .the hundred,
and tbe county tax 150 per cent on
that will figure up 45 ceDts. To tbis
add five cents for Capitol building
tax, and we have 80 (cents, tbe full
amount on tbe hundred dollars.
"Executive Department, Atlanta,
Ga., September 22, 1885.—Pursuant
tp section of tbe tax act, approved
December 22, 1864, which requires
the Governor, with tbe assistance of
the Comptroller-General, to levy a
per centage on tbe taxable property
of tbis State sufficient to meet tbe fi
nancial requirement thereof, Lot to
3 a certain per cent, therein
named, and after approximating, as
for os practicable, tbe amounts in
value of all taxable property in tbe
State as exhibited iu tbe digest: It is
ordered that tbree-tentbs of one per
cent, be assessed and collected upon
tbe amount of tbe value of tbe taxa

for the purpose of building tbe State
capitol—making tbree and one-balf
tenths of one per cent, for all pur

teuth of oue per cent to be separately
assessed and collected for tbe pur
pose mentioned.

The Injunction.
As mtimuted in last issue, an in
junction has been gotten out by some
of our citizens restraining Council
from carrying out tbe provisions of
tbe water and gas contract with
Messrs. Jeter and Bonrdman. Next
Monday ba8 been set by Judge Mer-
sbou to bear tbe arguments pro and
con. Col. Frank Harris represents
tbe injunctionists, and Messrs. Atkin
son, Symines and Smith the city. A
lively tilt is expected. Meanwhile,
another legal war is on tapis. It
seems that tbe plea for injunction sets
up some crave charges against mem
bers of Council, and for which those
gentlemen propose suing tbe injunc
tion petitioners for, defamation of
character. The original case may al
so develop a great deal, and bring
out eotne facts tbat may not be pleas
ant to all concerned. Public senti
ment is against tbe injunction, if we
may judge from the drift of street
conversation.
At La.t.
Our postoffice, after many weeks of
weary waiting, Ima at last been sup
plied with new Democratic postal
■natter—postals, stump*, etc. In the
list we observed a lot of the new
“special delivery” stamps. Accord
ing to tbe new postal law, all places
over 5,000 inhabitants “by tbe lust
census” ore designated us “special
delivery” postffices, aud' all letters
received at such postoffices bearing
one of these stamps will be delivered
promptly, wbeuever properly ad
dressed—the service rendered being
similar to tbe express delivery. Mr.
Dunn informs us that be will deliver
all such letters tbu* comes to tbis of
fice, nltbough be is not so required.
Steps should at once be taken to place
Brunswick on this list, for, although
the last census gave us only 3,000
population, there can be no doubt we
are now 5,000.
A Urunswlck-Bound Vessel Ashore.
Washington, Sept. 23.—The signal
corps station at Poyner’s Hill, N. C.,
reports that the three-masted schoon
er Ada F. Whitney, of Thomaston,
Me., Capt. R. Gilchrist, from Boston,
bound to Brunswick, Ga., in ballast,
had her sails blown aauy amt came
ashore at 12 o'clock n <ou, yesterday,
three miles south of Poyoer's Hill life
saving station. Tim crew of seven
lueu were saved. The vessel is now
breaking up.
The Baptist Lawn Party.
Our Baptist ladies faithfully carried
out tbeir promise, on Thursday night
last, to provide a pleasant and novel
entertainment. - Seats aud tables were
provided on the green around the
band-stand, and tbe dainties were lib
erally dispensed. Besides tbe cus
tomary ice cream and kindred delicn-
cies, oysters of delightful flavor were
served. Quite a crowd were pres
ent to enjoy the double attraction of
tbe eatables and tbe open-air band
concert. The Baptist ladies seem to
possess a faculty for getting up tak
ing programmes.
The H. & W. U. It.
Travel on the above road has been
somewbut b ockaded tbis week, ow
ing to “washups” on the line between
Jamaica and W.nynesville. Some
seven mift-s was impassable part of
tbe time, ami passengers, mail and
baggage hud to be transferred on
pole cars tbe entire distance. After
wards traius managed to get in tbree
miles of each, making the transfer
much shorter. The first freight train
got through Tunis.lay, Hod all is se
cure once more.

1885.
We uee tbe term “trade issue” for
want of a better one. What we pro
pose to get op is not a trade issue
proper, but rather a large pampblet,
descriptive of Brunswick and tbis sec
lion, together with tbeir resources, ad
vantages and possibilities. Every iu
terest will be written up folly, and
tbe whole will be embellished with
engravings of various buildings, views,
river scenes and prominent individu
als—tbe whole forming a perfect com
pendium of Brunswick and ber inter
ests. The size of tbe publication will
be ten by fifteen inobes, on bea^y pa
per, with handsome colored cover, nil
being printed on new type, ordered
direct from tbe foundry for tbis pur
pose. In short, we shall make it such
a work as shall be a credit to tbe
town, and in tbe distribution of which
every citizen shall fed o pleasure aud
pride.
Now, to accomplish tbis, we must,
as we have before stated, have tbe co
operation and support oi others in
two" ways, viz: First, in advertising,
and, second, in tbe distribution
throughout the laud of tbe issue. If
tbe encouragement thus fur given be
an index of future support, we shall
be able to fulfill our most sanguine ex
pectations. Our business men have
tasen bold of tbe scheme with a vim,
and almost every one to whom we
have submitted our plans has taken
space or subscribed for 50 or 100 cop
ies, or both.
We cannot yet set a day for our is
sue to come ont, as photographs will
have to be taken and engravings
made, besides collecting tbe Decessary
fund of information necessary to make
tbe issue complete. We promise,
however, tbat no unnecessary delay
shall occur.
In conclusion, we urge our people
not to wait for us to call upon them,
but to let us know wbat they feel in
clined to do. Every one Bbould feel
it a duty to do something.
Are You Tired of Being Sick.
We want a word to the men, wo
men and girls wbo work in stores,
offices and factories. There are hun
dreds of thousands of you iu tbe
country. Very few of you shut up
too much and exercise too little. In
this way you get sick. Your blood is
bad, your digestion poor, your head
often aches, your don’t feel like work.
Your liver, stomach and kidneys are
out of order. Parker’s Touie has
cured hundreds of such cases. It is
pure, sure and pleasant. *
