buried at Trenton, N. J., on Monday.
The results of the elections of Tues
day nve indeed cheering, but had
notbiog else been achieved than tbe
great victory in New York, and tbe
emancipation of Virginia from tbe
Mabone yoke, it would have been glo
ry enough for one day.

President Cleveland's proclamation
appointing a day of thanksgiving, is
printed elsewhere. Tbe American
people surely have much to bo thank
ful for. As a' nation, this year has
been one of many blessings, not the
least of which' is that a Democratic
President issued tbe proclamation.

Democracy Marches 10 Victory With

On Tuesday last eleven States held
elections, all of which were of greater
or less importance, and in the major
ity of them the results were cboering
Democratic victories. This unmis
takably affixes the seal of tbe natiou’s
approval upon the present admittis-
iration, and ahuvs that Cleveland en-
j ah the respect and esteem of the
__ people.
The following is it list of tbe States,
with the results:
Im New York tbo grnatest interest
whs felt, but she proved herself nil
right, and Hill, tbe present Demo
cratic iucumbeut, was re-elected by
a majority of at least 12,000. In New
York and Brooklyn local elections a
clear sweep wns mnde and Democrats
won every office.
Virginia also came to tbe front in
tine style. Fitz-Hugh Lee carried
the day by 20,000 majority over Wise,
Republican, Muhoue's pet. This
suows Mabone under effectually and

At 2:80 o’clock p. m., tbe meeting
was called to order by W. R. Gignil-
liott, who nominated Capt. Lacbison,
of Darien, as temporary chairman.
Capt. Lacbison was elected tempo
rary chairman, and C. S. Wylly as
secretary, pro tem, and J. D, McLeod
as assistant secretary.
Tbe roll of counties was then called
to ascertaia tbe delegates present.
The following counties were repre
sented:
Appling, Bibb, Dodge, Glynn, Ir
win, Johnson, Lawrence, Liberty, Mc
Intosh, Montgomery, Telfair, Tattnall,
Wayne, Emanuel.
Upon motion, tbe Chair appointed
tbe following committee to nominate
officers for tbe Convention: Messrs.
G. T. McArthur, A. S. Way, Jobn A.
Roberson, Sam Brown, B. F. Harrel,
Wilcox and Melton.
Tbe committee made tbeir report,
nominating for permanent chuirumn
Capt. Win, Hughes, of Liberty, and
for secretaries A. S. Way, of Liberty,
and J. D. McLeod, of Telfair. These
gentlemen were elected as permanent
officers.
Ciiptaiu Hughes, in taking bia seat,
made a short address, expressing his
appreciation of the honor conferred
on him, the object of the Convention,
and tbe good work to be accomplish
ed by if.
Upon motion of Mr. Dart, of Glynn,
it was resolved that the Chair appoint
one delegate from each county, ns a
committee to draft resolutions memo
rializing Congross for the appropria
tion for tbo improvement of the Alta-
mnha river and its tributaries; tbe
committee to report nt 9 o'clock a. m.
tbe next day.
Tbe chair accordingly appointed

It wns further resolved that this
Convention go into an election of per
manent officers for the Association,
which resulted in the election of Capt.
Wm. Hughes, of Liberty, as Presi
dent, Capt. James Lacbison, of McIn
tosh, ns Vice-President, J. L. Foster,
as Treasurer, and C. L. Wylly and A.
S. Way, ns Secretaries.
It was resolved that the newspa
pers of tbe counties of the Altnmabn
river and its tributaries, and through
out the State, are requested to pub
lish the proceedings of this conven
tion.
A resolution was offered and adopted
tendering the thanks of the conven
tion to the citizens of Darien and Mc
Intosh county for tbo hearty and gen
erous hospitality extended to its mem
bers. ,
Upou motion, the convention then
adjourned.

Colorado held important comity
elections, which resulted in great

Judge C. F. Crisp, of Americns, was
then called upon, who delivered a very
practical and strong address upon the
importance of improving the Altama-
ha river, and giving some good advice
as to manner of proceeding in order t
accomplish Dial end.
' Hon. A. O. Bacon was then called
upon, who endorsed the positions of
Judge Crisp, and expressed his hearty

was of more importance to the whole

SECOND DAYS PROCEEDINGS.
The convention was called to order
at 10 o’clock. Tbe committee ap

Ware Superior Court convened at
Wirycross this week, with Judge Mer-
ebori on the bench. There were no
civil cases of general importance
tried. Two felony eases were disposed
of. Tile first of these was Unit of Robt.
Hill, ivlio lately broke into the office
of the Brunswick & Western Railroad
at Millwood, and stole tickets, etc.—
He plead guilty to the charge of !>nr-
glnry, but has not been sentence ! at
this writing. Tbe other ease was that
of Sam Murray, charged with the
murder of Henry Williams, both col
ored. In this case the bid of indict
ment charged that Uie deceased had
been shot in the right shoulder, from
tbo effects of which lie died. Ia tile
trial the evidence charged that be was
shot iu tile left shoulder. Following
tbe strict letter of the law, under the
ruling of His Honor, the defendant
could not be convicted on account oi
this technicality, ami lie was dis
charged without ee t . u allowing the
case to go to the jury.
