To-morrow—Sunday—is Re.v. J.
W. Quarterman’s regular appoint
ment for services at the Presbyteriau
church of this city. He comes the
first Sabbath of each month.
Our Methodist friends are consid
erably exercised ever the non-arrival
of the sash, blinds, and seats for their
church extension. It will bo unfor
tunate if tbe building is not done in
time for the Conference. The seats can
be improvised with chairs, but there
is no sabstitate for tbe others. The
cbarch has been re-painted and rt-
carpeted, and with tbe extension is
materially improved.
Oar Catholic friends closed their
fair several days ago, having been
very snocsssfnl in their attempt
at raising money. Mr. and Mrs.
McDuffee won tbe premium for
the most popular railroad man
and lady, and Col. J. B. Bingham as
tbe most popular editor.
Simon* Resign*.
Alderman W. F. Symons tendered
bis resignation to council on Wednes
day night last. For our part, wo re
gret this step exceedingly, for we con
sider him one of tbe best alderman
the city bos had in years. His many
acts of wisdom have been seen all
along tbe course of his aldermanic
career. We take special pleasure in
pointing to one that rises pre-emi
nently above the rest, to-wit: the in
auguration and perfecting of the pres
ent police system. He it was who
conceived tbe idea us chairman of
that committee, and put it in force.
Id retiring to private life alderman
Symons carries with him tbe esteem
and respect of his follow citizens.

Hall, for one Alderman to fill the nn-
expired term of W. F. Symons, re

men on the 12th inst. shall be enti

Mayor City of Brunswick.
l'eck’s Bad Roy
Will be with us on monday night, as
will bo seen by advertisement One
of onr exchanges says:
The funny comedy of “Peck’s Bad
Boy and His Pa” was played last
night at the Theatre by Atkinson’s
Comedy Company, and the large audi
ence who witnessed it were delighted.
The play is full of tbe most amusing
and mirth-provoking situations, the
enjoyment of which was evidenced by
tho shouts of laughter which greeted
them.
Master Harry Brooks, as tho “Bad
Boy,” portrayed the character to na
ture, and be showed what a bad and
miscbeviooB boy can do to perfection.
The musical features of tbe play
were excellent. ,
Tbe company as a whole rendered
their pnrts exceptionally well, and the
audience bad no fault to fiud.
The "Bad Boy,’ will be played again
to-night. It can only bo fally appre
ciated when seen.
A Chrnmo.
The irregularity of the E. T. V. &
Ga. early morning train from Jesup
to Brunswick, J. B. Richardson, con
ductor, has been a subject of joke on
tbe part of some of tbe misebivons
ones about Sterling Station for some
time past. They finally offered
brother Richardson a chroma if be
came in “on time” two mornings in
succession during the year. One
cold morning last, week the second of
two “on time”—a delegation met him
on bis arrival before daylight and
handed him the chromo. Be it said
to his credit, however,, That be
never “behind time” if the trains from
tho other end of the line don’t detain
him. The system being all under one
management, each traiD waits connec
tion. All delays, therefore, being t ad
ded together and saddled on to con
ductor's Richardson’s ran, causes that
gentleman to be almost always
behind time. But he has
chromo now to comfort him, so be
happy.
Tlirco Line*—92.
A gentleman approached us this
week and said: “Mr. Editor, there
were throe lines in yoar paper last is
sue that were worth the whole year’s
subscription.” He referred to our
little squib about order at tbe poles
next Saturday, during election. We
don’t know that we could better en
gage this local space than to again call
attention to last year’s scenes. ’ We
need not tell what we saw, for every
body in town saw and condemned the
same things. Let us have no more
of it, but a quiet, orderly election
such as civilized people shoald have.
We nrge this matter this year in par
ticular, for we will have in onr midst
on that day representatives from half
of the counties in the State of Geor
gia. Shall these return home think
ing we are barbarians? or shall they
go away feeling that we know how to
act—even on election day ?
Death of H. in. Allen.
The subject of this article was a na
tive of Betbohem, Litchfield, Conn.
He was a young man in the prime of
life, and fall of hope, bat the messen
ger came, and after an illness of one
month, passed away. He came to
Georgia in ’81, and lived part of this
time in onr city. More recently be
became interested in a lumber mill
near Eastman. His health failing
him be came to Brunswick for treat
ment. He died of consumption of
tbe bowels. His mother came on to
nurse him about twelve or fifteen
days before be died, and at his death
took his remains North for burial.
Daring bis illness he was kindly
cared for not only by the members of
Mr. P. L. Bailey’s family, where be
was stopping, bat- also by tbe mem
bership of Seaport Lodge I. 0. O. F.,
that organization which never lets a
brother suffer.
Wo extend our heartfelt sympathy
to all sorrowing relatives and friends

the solicitation of Mr. F. A. Fitzger

week for flour Bnd grist, tbe two arti
cles wanted most, at about seventy-
five cents per barrel from the West
to Nassau, and this week shipped a
car load of each to Mr. F. at Nassau.
An Order From Africa.
Wo tbis week received an order for
a dozen copies of oar Trade Pamph

Beadjr money Changer.
Messrs. Mayer & Glaubor are agents
for a new and popular machine called
the “Ready Money Changer.” It con
sists of an npright stand or desk with
holes on the top for patting in the
silver pieces, each hole corresponding
to its denomination. Tbe change is
made by simply pressing a button,
and each button is made to repre
sent a given amount of change.
Where change has to be made rapid
ly, it is a very useful invention.
