“Page P. Gray, M. l>., pbysican and
surgeon, draggist and apothecary,
St. Simoos Mills, Ga.”
Tbe above card v»e« presented to
ns at the postoffice last Wednesday.
We congratulate tbe doctor npon bis
promotion, and sincerely hope that be
may find rolling pills, washing bottles,
spreading plasters, feeling pulses, set
ting bones, examining tongues, and
compounding mixtures, far more
profitable and pleasant than saw mill
routiue.
Tbe nmisual phenomenon of bail
stones falling in Decembar occurred
ou the Island last Wednesday about
2 p. m. Such a thing was wholly un
looked for at the time. A fovy mo
ments before this occurrence the sky
was clear and bright, when very sud
denly a small cloud from tbe north
hurriedly passed over from which
there was a very slight rainfall, ac
companied with hail stones in some
portions of tbe Island as large us fil
berts; at others, not so large. From
wh ,t we gather a bail Sturm is very
omi8ual at this time of year.

H. B. Symous, Esq., at)d family-
have removed from St. Simons to
BruuswicK. Their maoy friends re
gret very much to see them leave.
On the 19tb inst. there will be held
an election for Justice of the Peace
for the 25th District G. M., to suc
ceed H. R. Symons, Esq., resigned
Mr. ,J. D. Gould, our present effi
cient bailiff, is spoken by almost every
body as successor to the Justice’s
place. None better. Let all vote for
Mr. Gould.
Bev. Mr. Maybin, of Brunswick,
preached at St. Johns church last
Sunday morning, and at tbe mills in
the ufteruoon to appreciative congre
gations at both places.
, Rev. A. G. P. Dodge, Jr., preached
at Savannah on last Sabbath, at
St. John's church, nnd had the
good fortune to receive a donation
from that church of some eighty odd
dollars with which to help complete
St. John’s church at Frederica.
In middle Georgia spare ribs, sau
sages, back-bones, head-cheese and
other pork fixings are ns certainly
looked for by tbe first of December as
turkey accompanies Thanksgiving
Day. Why rannot coast Georgia do
likewise!
Fred Hooper, only child of Mr. nud
Mrs. Thomas Broxton, of this place,
aged seven months, died on Friday
night, November 20tb, of heart dis
ease. Tbe sympathies of the whole
island are with the bereaved parents
and relatives.
Brunswick whisky bos materially
improved in flavor and quality since
tbe introduction of tbe artesian sys
tem of irrigation. Now, as St. Simons
is going to have one or more wells
bored, nnd as it is already a probibi
tion(?) island, Miab wuuts to know
where tbe benefit comes in to St. Si'
moDS.
Rumor hath it! Hath what? Well,
Weil sep wlmt wo will see. Hiu visits
to St. SimooB become more frequent
and somewhat more prolonged. Our
renders may expect befuro another
moon wnuctb to hear of an important
society eveDt. It was ever time, among
young people. Soiuotiinea tbe old
ones, too, catcb the inspiration.
Tbe portion of public roud from
Jewtown through Newfield plauta-
tioD, which for the past twelve months
has been tbe source of so much com
ment nud criticism by no menus com
plimentary to tbe local board of road
commissioners, has this wcok been
transformed into a most excellent
highway. -“Honor to whom -honor is
due.” Amos Adams is the overseer,
The foolish habit of allowing little-
darkies to run at large over tbo is
land with guns nnd dogs is very cen
surable. A half grown lnbberlip of
tbe -j/c/km black homo spattered onr
bouse the other day with shot suffi
cient to have done much damage hud
bis old fusee been enough ncconnt, to
have propelled the missiles with
usual force. The old ante-bellum veil
low paths is the best available rem
edy to correct each nuisances.
Wo were forcibly reminded of “tlie
eternal fitness of tbiugs" a few days
since. A prominent divine, wishing
the pnblic road near his residence
worked in a certain way, became
somewhat active in giving orders to a
squad of workers, when one of them
said to him: “Look by’nr, a mighty-
good preacher is gwine to be
spiled in bossin’ dis job. Go way
now, gib us good preach, we gib you
good roads.” Thereupon the gcntlo-
man of cloth rested from road duty.
