Captain E. F. Daniels, of the David
Clark, is probaltlv the safest and most
reliable Captain going out of the port
of Savannah.
The steamer Davit! Clark carries
the largest crew of any steamer, either
ocean nr inland, going out nf tlio city
tjf‘Savannah.
The steamer David Clark touches
at several places that no other lino of
traii'piiftatiou does. She is un abso
lute necessity to the business existcucj
of several points of the coast.
Piney Woods Hotel is full of North
ern visitors. There onglit to be at
this writing one thousand Northern
visitors visiting at Ocean View, and
other houses nre to be erected on St.
Simons bJach.
I The steamer David Clark is twelve
years old. It was built in Jackson
ville, Fla., in 18715. Her limbers are
of our best Southern woods could
furnish. She is prononneed yet to
be ns good as new—a compliment, to
the mechanism of the South.
Capt. Lamberton, of tbe Gtli divis

Tftw 9*'t»mer David Clark makes

On last Friday, whilst the South
Oeogia Methodist Conference was in
session in the city of Brunswick, Capt.
• Barny Dart gave some twenty-live or
thirty of the clergyman a complimen
tary ride over to St. Simons and hack.
It was the lirst time tlmt many of
these good men had ever been on the
salts; mauy of them had never be
fore caught a glimpse of old Neptune.
It was a beautiful, balmy, sun shinv
afternoon, and nature seemed clothed
in all her majestic grandeur for the
special benefit of these divines. Fully
conversant with tho richness of the
poetry of the Bible they enjoyed tbe
occasion to its full extent. It was
really pleasant and edifying to wit
ness their emotions and listen to tho
many apropos quotations given on
the impulse from inspired writers.
After their return, these reverend gen
tlemen, Rev. C. W. Weston in tho
chair, passed resolutions expressing
their thanks to Capt. Barny for the
ride given and tho pleasant visit to
St. Simons. Capt. Barny, ns modest
as its ever (you know modesty always
attends merit) in a pleasant bow re
ceived the compliment in a manner
worthy the commander of an ocean
steamer. Wo hope he will be if he
lives long enough. So mote it be.
