production “Each to His Kind,” an
East Indian picture released on the
Paramount Program. This is anew
sort of a play for these two Oriental
actors, but Hayakawa more than prov
ed his fitness for the part in his por
tuayal of the East Indian character in
“The Victoria Cross” with Lou-Tel
legen.
The story tells of Ithandah, the
young prince and heir to the throne
who is engaged to the Princess Nada.
He is to be sent to England to com
plete his-education, and Nada, with a
woman’s intuition of coming evil, gives
him an amulet to bring him back to
her in safety.
At college the young prince soon be
comes accustomed -to English ways,
but refuses all social invitations, ns he
is forbidden by his cast religion to
touch a white woman. Amy Dawe, a
Colonel’s daughter, wagers that she
can interest him ami even secure the
famous amulet which lie (Veals con
stantly. This she proceeds to do, much
to the displeasure yi her fiance, Dick
Lorimer.
A treacherous tutor secures a photo
graph of Amy and the Priftee together,
which causes much uneasiness to the
young prince, and on the death of his
father he returns to India greatly dis
illusioned and resolved to stick to In
dian ways, renouncing the rule of Un-
English forever.
He at once starts a rebellion, in tin
course of winch lie captures both Amy
Dawe, who had come to India with
her father, and also her fiance, Dick

Tsuru Aoki, the demure little Japa
nese wife of Sessile Hayakawa, who
Is perhaps more popular than any oth
er foreign actor now in this country
and who is now to be seen with him
in the Lasky picture “Each to His
Kind,” released on the Paramount Pro
gram, had forgotten her native tongue!
This was proved by one of Ihe actors
at the Lasky studio who had been jok
ing Aoki on the subject and at last
asked her to translate a given sentence.
After quite a lot of hemming and haw
ing she gave a more or less plausible
translation, but the crafty aetor, to
clinch the matter, asked Hayakawa
himself for the correct translation.
The latter Is an accomplished linguist,
and his version, it must be confessed,
bore little resemblance to his wife’s.
She was greatly confused that her first
attempt at American “bluff" had fail
ed so disastrously, but Hayakawa came
to her rescue by saying that she has
lived in this country-almost since baby
hood—not so long at that!

was originally intended to be the brid
