AT WAR WITH GERMANY.
Like a desperado at bay, and yet
determined to defy well established
rights, and finding itself condemned
by nations interested in the suppres
sion of lawlessness and militarism,
the German government from its am
bush beneath the cover of the sea
persists in its determination to use
its submarine craft in attacks upon
boats upon which American citizens
are passengers in its effort to destroy
American shipping, from which at
tacks American liveir have been lost.
Notwithstanding frequent protests
upon the jiart of the government of
the United States after the sinking of
the Titanic and the avowal of the
German authorities that our rights in
this respect would not be again mo
lested the German government re
pudiated its promises and entered up
on a ruthless warfare in which we
were told that none would be spared
if within the range of its submarine
attacks.
If Germany, or any other nation, be
lieves that our people would supinely
submit to such treatment, it is be
cause they believe that the spirit of
our fathers, of those who*have fought
for liberty and gaining it have thus
far maintained it, no longer moves
ns and is no longer a heritage which
we prize. If Germany believes we will
not fight and that rather than fight we
would endure humiliation and the
death of Americans in the pursuit of
their liberty of movement, she will
soon find that these conclusions are !
altogether wrong.
Asa matter of fact the people of !
the United States have long sympa-
UNCLE SAM, (Bless him, we’re with him, Right or Wrong,) may have
to take over the control of some prices, but he don’t have to regu
late our price as we hold them down the lowest limit ourselves.
We will “divide up” with you one case of
Ladies’ Hose, true, they are seconds, but they
are worth every cent, in case lots, that we ask
for them by the single pair. You may get them
while they last for only 10c a pair, limit, 12 pairs
to the customer.
We also have a case of India Linon, [White
Lawn! and Pajama Checks, short lengths, worth
in even normal times 12 l-2c per yard. We will
sell this lot for only 10c per yard, limit 10 yard s
to the customer.
We have a limited number of “Middy Suits”
of Shepherd Plaid, a good serviceable neat skirt
These are only a few of the many things we offer at prices that don’t look so worse after all, now do they?
We’re with Uncle Sam to the limit, and are ready to serve him when he calls us, but while we are still here we
are going to serve our customers to the best of our ability.

' v.i ,i the u. cs, no. be-ta-se oi
any prejudice against the people of
Germany, not for any bias in favor of
the people of one race over another,
but because there has been a growing
conviction that the government of
Germany denies to its people the right
to liberty, and participation in the af
fairs of the government which proper
ly belongs to the governed. We have
been shocked at the treatment accord
ed Belgium, relying upon its treaty
rights which were scorned as a “mere
scrap of paper.” We were horrified
v/hen the Titanic was sunk with hun
dreds of men, women and children
the best of several nations. We have
been convinced that civilization has
not been advanced by such methods
l.or by the preparations which have
been going on for many years to build
ii) a wonderful war machine with
which to bully and browbeat and ul
timately to conquer the world and
hold it in .subjection.
We have rather hoped that the al
lied governments would win because
with their success would result a
larger and more vital supremacy of
the average man.
But we have remained neutral until
live Imperial German Government be
came a reckless outlaw and flagrantly
trampled upon the rights of neutral
nations who admittedly had never
sought to quarrel nor to interfere
with European politics. We remained
neutral but helpful to those who were
engaged in the awful warfare. We
have sought even to aid the helpless
of Germany, we have ministered unto
Belgium ami we have studiously and
patiently tried to avoid war.
Germany would not have it so. So
now, after months and years of effort
to prevent a conflict, we are forced in
to defend our rights and to protect
| American lives. Being in we will be
! felt. Having defied us w r e have be
come determined. Every resource of
our great nation, its health, its re
sources, Its men, its women, its ideals
and its glorious past inspire every
free-born American citizen to put
flown this German Autocracy and
though blood will be the sacrifice,
and treasures will be thrown in the
vortex, it will be spent freely and
enthusiastically that, democracy may
obtain and that civilization may he
hereafter unimpended.

25 LBSJN TANLAC
Began Taking Tanlac Jan. Ist and
Was Down to 107 Pounds—
Now His Weight is 132 Pounds
Another wonderful endorsement for
Tanlac was received through the mail
recently, at the Tanlac office, and in
(many respects it is even more remark
able than any heretofore published.
It is from Dr. M. C. Cheek, a well
known optician of Brownsdale, Ga. Dr.
Cheek formerly lived at Hawkinsvilie,
Ga., where he practiced his profession,
and is well-known in that city and
section. Dr. Cheek states that he has
spent over three thousand ,($3,000)
dollars trying to get rid of a stomach
trouble, and that he had been treated
by several of the best specialists of
this state and Chicago, ill., without
getting relief.
Referring to Dr. Cheek's statement,
Dr. E. W. Goode; the well-known Haw
; kinsville druggist, said:
“Dr. Cheek was in my store a few
days ago, and was conversing with
some gentlemen regarding the merits
of Tanlac, and his experience with
Tanlac was so remarkable that I asked
him if he would object to giving me a
signed statement for publication. He
said certainly not. I wmote the state
ment just as he gave it to me, and
enclose same herewith, which is as fol
lows:
“‘I spent over three thousand dol
lars trying to get rid of a stomach
trouble, and had tried some of the best
doctors in this state and Chicago, Til.,
and was unable to find anything to
benefit me. The doctors said 1 had to
operated on. I lost weight and was
down to one hundred and seven
pounds.
•' •! began taking Tanlac the first or ,
January, and have taken four bottles’
I now weigh one hundred and thirty
two pounds, and can eat. anything 1
wantfto eat.
