Bank of Cartersville ANNOUNCEMENT A NEW DRUG FIRM We have just purchased the drug business, with the good will of the establishment, until now the property of M. F. Word, who has sold to us this business on account of the need of rest and recreation a ter thirty-five years of close application, nearly all of this time doing a drug business at the same location. We expect to conduct this business on the same high plane that Mr. Word has pursued in creat ing, building up and maintaining it. The writer has been a competitor of Mr. Word tor the past eight years, has had a great many business dealings with him, and gladly testifies that he has never dealt with a more honest and straightforward man. We are going to continue to conduct this business upon a fair and square basis, just as he has done. Mr. T. J. Champion, who has been with the Ben C. Gilreath Drug Company for the past year will be the active manager and will be in charge of the business at all times. Mr. Ben C. Gilreath, who has been running the Ben C. Gilreath Drug Company for the past eight years, will assist in the general manage ment and executive supervision of the business. Mr. Champion will be aided by a corps of well trained clerks selected by reason of their capacity to take care of the wants of our customers. We will seek to hold all the old customers of this well established business and trust that none will see fit to discontinue trading at the same place. We want each and every one of Mr. Word’s customers to do business with us. ft Your trade and patronage will be highly appreciated and we hope to prove it by the conscientious ..service we expect to render. |pg| M BpMß* GILREATH-CHAMPION DRUG COMPANY Charles Vaughan. Word, Druggist, Cartersville, Ga. THE BARTOW TRIBUN E-TH E CARTERSVILLE NEWS, APRIL 19, 1917 L. 811. SETS FORTH j EQUIPMENT PROBLEM Answering complaints made by ship , t>ers relating to failure to secure equlp j n.ent the L. & N. railroad has sent a ! r opy of Vice-President Evans’ letter, a copy of which appears below, to the Car Service Commission to prove that it is using for justice and fair ness, as well as persuasion, to get its owu cars, or their equivalent back on its own rails for the use of its local patrons: Louisville, Ky., April 4, 1917. Commission on Car Service,* Kellogg Bldg., Washington, D. C. Dear Sirs: Referring to your advices as to the ret-urn of this company's equipment and delivery of foreign box cars to this company for an equalization, also to your requests that other lines con necting with this company be supplied with cars, I desire to call your atten tion to the conditions existing with us on April 1, when our aggregate short age of box cars was 2,937. T he telegraphic interchange reports : lunv that o r . April l we had in our possession 6,729 L. & X. box cars corn fared with 5,171 on March 1, a gain of | 1,612; that there was a loss of 38 auto mobile cars which we are using for the same purposes as common' box, making a net gain of 1,574. However, | ‘he reports show the total number of | T & N. and foreign box cars on Apri: j 1 to have been 12,159 and of March 1, 11,200, a gain of 959, with a loss of 168 automobile box, making a net gain of i‘ I. While we have made a gain of S.-> per .cent of our ownership of L. & N. box and automobile cars at home, we have lost 4.3 per cent of the equivalent of our ownership in for eign cars, so that we have a net gain j of only 4.2 per oent. While this apparently shows that, a number of tiie lines are observing the car service rules to some extent, if we compare the available box ear equipment April 1 with February 1 we find that we have a net gain of 1,217 I- & N. box and automobile cars on F-. & N. R. R„ but from this should be deducted 80 new automobile cars that were added to our equipment during this period, leaving 1,137. Taking the total of L. & N. and foreign box and automobile cars on the L. & N. R. R , there was a net gain of only 35, de ducting as before the 80 new' cars ad- . ded to our equipment. At the same i t;uie - because of the increased demand j for box cars from various causes our i daily shoitage has been constantly in ! cieasin S. and our condition today in this respect is more serious than at any time since June, 1916. 1 fear that cur daily shortage reports do not con vey to you how serious our conditions aie and how great a shortage actually exists, as we undertake to give you iii those reports only the actual shortage as it exists from day to day. In a few days I expect to send to you some in formation I am collecting through our superintendents from shippers, which will give you approximately the num ber ol car loads of freight actually awaiting immediate shipment. I wish, however, here to emphasize again the necessity for relief of the shippers along the line of the L. & N. R. R. The small number of foreign cars that has been delivered us by connecting Fines is simply not noticed or felt by the shippers in the supply. And at the same time you are calling ui>ou us to deliver cars to other lines. 1 submit that it is an injustice to the shippers along the L. & N. R. R., and to the company as'well, to derive th£m of any cs that may be available lor movement of traffic that has been so seriously delayed, and especially so when lines that have an excess of equipment are not delivering to this company its own equipment or the equivalent in such number as they should under the car service rules. Apparently the railroads nebd to be stived from themselves Yours truly, (Signed) G. E. EVANS, Fourth Vice-President. i- - NEW HOME TREATMENT FOR BANISHING HAIRS (Beauty Topics) I W ith the aid of a rnedol paste, it is | an easv matter for any Woman to re ; move every trace of hair or fuzz from ! face, ueck and arms.
