LIVER DIDN’T ACT

Says 65 year Old Kentucky Lady, Who Tells How She Was Relieved
After a Few Doses of Black-Draught
Meadorsvllle, Ky.—Mrs. Cynthia
Higginbotham, of this town, says: "At
my age, which is 65, the liver does
not act so well as when young. A few*
years ago, my stomach was all out of
fix. I was constipated, my liver
didn’t act. My digestion was bad, and
it took so little to upset me. My ap
petite was gone. I was very weak...
I decided I would give Black-
Draught a thorough trial as I knew It
was highly recommended for this
trouble. I began taking it. I felt
better after a few doses. My appetite
improved and I became stronger. My
bowels acted naturally and the least
trouble was soon righted with a few

RAILROADS ARE NOW
ONE BIG SYSTEM.
Insofar as the handling of govern
ment business is concerned the railr
roads of the United States are now as
one big system. They are co-operating
for a great national efficiency, and all
competition is torn down when it
comes to solicitation of government
business.
This has been brought about by the
action of the five members of the spec
ial railroad committee on national de
fense. Terminals mean nothing and
equipment is pooled. To all intents and
purposes the railroads of the country
are one nation-wide transportation
system, and they are for the govern
ment first, last and all the time.
Speaking of the authority of this
committee of a prominent rail
road official says: “This committee
Igis power to take engines or cars
fiom the Illinois Central and send
.them to the New York Central. It has
authority to order officers and em
ployes from the Union Pacific for ser
vice elsewhere. It shipments
diverted from one road to another,
without regard to competitive earn
ings. Expedition is the end in view,
and this step was taken by the rail
load executives in a broad-guaged and
patriotic way, which eliminates sel
fish interest of any given road.”
The railroads of the United States
are destined to prove a potent factor
of the nation in war, and that they
are meeting their opportunities for
service to the government is shown by
the action they have just taken.

Nothing equals “California Syrup of
Pigs” for children's ills; give a tea
spoonful, and in a few hours all the
foul waste, sour bile and fermenting
food which is clogged in the bowels
passes out of the system, and you
have a well and playful child again.
All children love ibis harmless, deli
cious “fruit laxative,” and it never
fails to effect a good “inside” cleans
ing. Directions for babies, children of
all ages and grown-ups are plainly on
the bottle. "
Keep it handy in your home. A little

HAWAIIANS WILL SING
AND PLAY MELODIES.
Recognizing the popular demand for
Hawaiian music, the Lincoln chautau
quas have arranged to present during
the chautauqua season in this city, a
program of the haunting melodies
from the south sea isles, as only the
native Hawaiians can sing and play
them. The attraction will be the ex
tremely popular Vierra’s Royal Ha
waiian Singers. The company is a high
class one, composed of four young
men and one young lady, and each one
of them is a gifted soloist, either vocal
or Instrumental, making a quintet of
unusual talent. The program will be
presented in native Hawaiian cos
tumes, and the ever popular ukelele
•and steel guitar will be much in evi
dence throughout the entertainment,
contributing, under the deft fingers of
the players, the plaintive music of
that romatic land. Hawaiian numbers,
popular songs, and the unique ukelele
and guitar renditions of the native
melodies will be featured in the pro
gram.
The Lincoln management lias em
phasized that the Vierra’s Royal Ha
waiian Singers company is not to be
confused with Hawaiian troupes of
lesser importance, which may have
been seen in some cities. The Ha
waiian program maintains the usual
high Lincoln standard of excellence
which is in evidence in the general
'program of the chautauquas.
Grand opera, lectures by men of na
tional fame, music by the Brooks Con
cert band, an elaborate pageant, and
a week of playground and child wel
fare training, orchestra programs, and
other entertainment, enjdyable, con
structive, educational and beneficial,
will be Included in the chautauqua
season. It is to be a big week of worth
while pleasure for all, and the local
committee should receive, the cordial
support of all, which can best be given
by securing the season tickets early.
