Director L. B. Jacßscn has writ ten Chairman Win. J. Harris of the Federal Trade Commhdson in Wash j bigton, calling attention to the ser j iou , sness of the oral situation at prac j be ally every point in Georgia, and the fact that no remedy has come as vet, | notwithstanding the action of Presi dent Wilson in fixing standard prices ! at mines. Mr. Jackson, in his letter, furnishes the trade commission with evidence ■that the coal miners are disobeywug the order of the president and do not intend to sell at the prices fixed. An Atlanta dealer who has offered spot cash for coal to a number of miners in this territory, has been met by the an swer that they have no coal for sale at the prices named by the president, but have already sold their output to dealers at higher prices. In. this con nection Mr. Jackson says to the trade commission: “What good *s there to come From the president naming prices, if the peo ple are to be met with the statement that there is no coal to be had at such prices? Somebody is going to be hurt badly, if something is not done at cnce If the people abo going to have to pay the high prices for coal which have been prevailing, then the quick er . the government lets them know this, the better. Please let me know what disposition is to be made of this complaint.” A reply from the federal trade com mission as to action in this matter will be awaited with much interest. * * * The state market bureau has in sight from 1,000 to 2,000 bushels of seed wheat, as well as a good supply - of oats and some Abruzzi rye, and is now in position to tell farmers where they can secure their seed for winter planting. Any others who have seed for sale, should write the bureau, as there will be good demand this fall. Commissioner J. J. Brown calls at tention to the fact that the time foi planting fall wheat is rapidly ap proaching, and farmers in every coun ty should be getting their best ground ready now. Two acres to the plow, i’s the slogan, and nowhere should there be any less, but if possible always more. Georgia is going to need every bushel of wheat that can be raised this fall and the coming spring, and it will be taken at very substantial prices. * * * The season for state, county and district fairs is approaching, and, un doubtedly, Georgia is going to make fine showing in all of them this year.
