SUGGESTIONS FOR CHRISTMAS
PACKETS FOR OUR SOLDIERS.
By Christmas the United States will
Save more than 1,000,000 men under
arms, and everyone will be eager to
help in giving them Christinas cheer.
No matter how generous a supply of
gifts some of the men may receive
irom families and friends, it is be
lieved that all Red Cross members will
want to unite hi sending to each man
a Christmas packet filled with good
things and good will.
In order that the men may be equal
ly remembered and yet that there may
be a pleasing variety in the contents,
the following suggestions are made for
preparing and assembling the Christ
mas parcels:
General Suggestions.
1. Nothing should go in them which
r ill not keep fresh from the time of
packing until Christmas.
2. Dried fruits and other food pro
ducts should be jiacked in small tin
tv wooden boxes, one-quarter to one
self pound size.
3. Hard candy, including chocolate,
would probably be safe in tin foil or
heavy cardboard, but no soft choco
lates nor anything that could possibly
be crushed should be used, as the oth
er contents oi-the package might be
spoiled thereby.
4. Several dainties packed in ob
-1 ng jjn boxes each holding a quarter
of a pound, will provide a better vari
ety for a packet than a larger quantity
*f a single confection.
5. Xo liquids nor articles packed in
MAMMA! DON'T YOU
SEE YOUR CHILD IS
SICK, CONSTIPATED
Look at Tongue! Move Poisons From
Liver and Bowels at
Once.
.Mother! Your child isn't natuially ,
cross and peevish. See if tongue is j
coated; this is a sure sign its little !
stomach, liver and bowels need a I
cleansing at once.
When listless, pale, feverish, full of
cold, breath bad, throat sore, doesn’t
eat, sleep or act naturally, has stem
s’ cli-ache, diarrhoea, remember, a gen
tle liver and bowel cleansing should
always be the first treatment given.
Nothing equals “California Syrup of
Figs’’ for children’s ills; give a tea
spoonful, and in a few hours all the
foul waste, sour bile and fermenting
food which is clogged in the bowels
passes out of the system, and you
have a well and playful child again.
All children love this harmless, deli
cious “fruit laxative,’’ and it never
fails to effect a good “inside” cleans
ing. Directions for babies, children of
all ages and grown-ups are plainly on
the bottle.
Keep it handy in your home. A lit
tle given today saves a sick child to
morrow, but get the genuine. Ask your
druggist for a 50-cent bottle of “Cali
fornia Syrup of Figs,” then look and
see that it is made by the California
Fig Syrup Cos.” —(advt.)
Finishing a Telephone Talk
Vlt is always good practice to close
your telephone talk by saying “good
' bye.”
‘ If you hang up the receiver without
doing so, the party to whom you are
talking may continue to talk or at least
remain at the telephone, wasting his
time and keeping the line from being
used by somebody else.
The “good-bye” at the end of a
telephone talk is an infallible signal to
hang up the receiver without delay—it
terminates the telephone talk graciously
and effectively.

glass should be placed in the package.
G. For wrapping the gifts use a
khaki-colored handkerchief, twenty
seven inches square, and form the
base of the packet by placing on the
center of the handkerchief a pad of
writing paper about seven by ten
inches.
7. Select a variety of articles either
from the suggested list (or according
to individual wishes) to an amount not
exceeding $1.50, and arrange them on
the pad of paper so that the entire
package shall be the width of the pad
and approximately five or six inches
high. -*? v
8. Wrap and tie with one-inejj red
ribbon and place a Christmas card un
der the bow of ribbon. A card bearing
the greetings of the Chapter would be
desirable.
f. Wrap the parcel again in heavy,
light-brown manilla paper, and tie se
curely with red, green, or gilt cord,
and use Christmas labels or American
flags as desired. -
