Editing the Local Paper
There is a man in Riedsville who, by
his own confession has said fifty times
in the last five y'ears, “1 want to edit
the Tatnall Journal one month.”
The other day Editor Rhoden got
I ready to take a vacation and he invited
j this gentleman in to edit the paper for
just two weeks.
He devoted two-thirds of his editor
ial space to an article telling what he
thought the owner of the paper ought
to do, and the rest was divided about
half and half between clipped editor
ials from other papers and two short
ones of his own writing, one about
cleaning off the cemetery and another
calling attention to an aproaching pub
lic meeting.
Half of his time is gone and he has
not written any of the ''hot stuff”
which he thinks the editor ought to
write from week to week. When the
harness is put on and the responsibil
ity is felt, there is a taming down that
takes place and the desire to “rip ’em
tip the back" is not so great as while
looking on from the outside.
There are a lot of folks who know
just what the editor ought to write
and what the preacher ought to preach,
but they are spending their own lives in
the shallows doing little with the ta
lent that has been given them.—Ex.
