■ ates A Spring Drive
Against Dangerous Fly
Spring has come and soon vve will
have that worst 01' household pests,
the fly, as an unwelcome visitor. Let
us as a country go “over the top” in a
drive against this enemy this year.
Matty of us have not fully recovered
from the after effects of influenza,
end therefore not strong enough to
: yht the battle of Typhoid, of which
the fly is the Commanding Officer.
Flies breed in filth, live largely on
filth and tarry filth wherever they go,
so ljy thro simple means we may over
come them.
1. —Prevent their breeding. The man
ioc pile is the natural breeding place of
Hies. Therefore in every stable there
tIII be a tight, closely covered box
10 it. . :> manure in. Ollier breeding
places are old rubbish piles—clean up
and burn old rubbish that has collect
ed in out houses and fence corners,
and tee if you have fewer flies.
2 - Prevent their living.—Trapping.
Many and varied are the ways and
means of trapping flies, The Govern
ment has succeeded in making a trap
which may easily be copied by any
housekeeper at a small cost and little
trouble. A card to the Demonstration
Agent in your county will bring you full
and complete directions. There should
be t<ne or more in every home and food
store in Bartow County.
3. —Prevent their travels. —Keep
them away from human discharges and
from food. At once see that every door
and window is screened. See that the
screens fit close and are free from
holes. See that no food is left unpro
tected to the tiles.
SWAT THE FLY
S is for spring, the time of the ,year
When Mr. Ply begins his career.
W is for waste in which the fly breeds,
The more, the merrier, for his needs.
A is for anything dirty and vile
On which the fly may live for awhile.
T is for typhoid, a friend of the fly.
It makes thousands sicken and hun
dreds die.
T is tor trouble he brings to us all
From early in spring till late in the
fall.
! I is for homes where he likes to sta y
■if he finds them unscreened he will
not go away.
K is for enemy, the housewife so brave,
Who trajxs him and swats him. and
makes him her slave.
F is for friends for which he is lack
ing.
In Bartow it is hard for him to set
backing.
I, is for labor, which is well spent.
If it keeps Air. Fly from being con
tent.
Y is for you who will kelp in the fight.,
Kill all you can from morning tvil
night.
