Cotton seed are selling In Ameri
cas for the highest price in the his
tory of the local market. The mills
are paying as much as $S1 a ton.
Which is almost twice as much as was
paid two years ago.
There is a considerable demand for
peanuts, in preference to cotton seed,
hut the supply is rather limited.

Dear Mamina and Jule:
Have been having a line sea voy
age and feel like a new man. We
have now been out for ten days, and
the weather, with the exception of two
or three stormy days, has been fine.
The food on the ship is fine, and
have been enjoying all my meals, as
have not been in the least sea-sick
sc far. Guess I am in luck, as quite :
a few of the boys have been. Wo <
have a very nice bunch on board and
have been passing away the time play-
lug cards and reading. I have no du
ties to perform while on hoard ship,
and my time is all my owne. iWll be
sorry when the trip is over, as I am
very fond of the water.
Dropped you a card from Halifax,
Nova Scotia, where we were at an- j
ehor for several days, but could not
say at the time where I was, as the
censor rules are very strict, and we
are not permitted to write anything
that would convey information of any
kind. Of course, this letter will not
be mailed until we get across, so can
| write anything I care to regarding
I my trip.
j The weather is getting very cold, as |
we aro now off the coast of IrelanJ,
j but am well prepared for it. Have
| heavy woolen underwear, woolen uni
form and woolen shirts, and an over-
leoat and gloves, so there Is not much
chance of getting very cold, even in
zero weather.
When I first wrote you, I told you

war and leader of the French Alsastian party. The girls lied secretly from
their home in Colmar to France to save their lives as the Germans ad
vanced into the town. , Subsequently they came to the United States,
where they will remain until after the end of the war.

LONDON, Nov. 7.—Swedish army
officials were accused of conspiring
to furnish millions of dollars' worth
of wool to Germany, in the course*
of an action in the Prize Court here
this week.
The case concerned a shipment of
1,500 bales of wool, consigned to the*
Swedish army, but destined, accord-
to the attorney general, for a
Gentian firm in Leipzig. The ship-
nt is valued at $700,000. being only
one of several seized enroute from
o Argentina Republic.
Intercepted documents, produced in
court, showed that the wool was not
intended to remain in Sweden. That
the Swedish army had no Intention
or using the wool was indicated, it
was asserted, by the fact that its rep
resentatives made no appearance in
the court and put in no claim to the
cargo.
It was stated in court tljjat the
British authorities had in the past
allowed several shipments of wool
similarly consigned to the Swedish
army administration to pass. In the
confidence that the official nature of
the consignees rendered It possible
to accept their assurances.
“Is this a case where the wool was
consigned to the army administra
tion withouts its knowledge,” asked
the presiding judge, ‘‘or is it a case
•where some unauthorled person used
the name of the department?”
The attorney general replied, “that
the court will be able to judge of
the practicability of anyone using tho
name of an official department with
out some official in authority be
coming aware of the fact. The in
tercepted letters show that this is a
part of a very bad business, a de
liberate scheme to pass wool into
Germany at a moment^ when Ger
many i 3 suffering from a great scar
city of that necessary commodity for
war purposes.”
The presiding judge, in giving his
verdict, condemning the entire ship
ment as a lawful prize, said: “The
j intercepted documents show that the
’wool was intended for Germany. How*
i it came about that the name of a
nuctr&l government was used by tho
real consignee we do not know, and
it is not for us to make obfcervat-
tiems in the matter. We can only
e\ppress our surprise that the repute
of a neutral government has been
employed to get absolute contraband
into Germany. We find that the des
tination of the goods was Leipzig,
and they are condemned as contra
band destined for the enemy.” 1
