the Seaboard Air Line, to publish the
following for the information of the
public:
To the end that “utmoet possible
utility may be secured from the ex
isting limited transportation facili
ties," Director General Hines has is
sued an appeal to shippers and re
ceivers of freight for co-operation
with those exercising control of the
railroads. Shippers, he urges, can
materially promote freight car effi
ciency:
(1) By loading all cars to full vis
ible or carrying capacity.
(2) By prompt loading and
lease to the carrier.
(3) By ordering cars only when
actually required.
(4) By eliminating the use of rail
way equipment in trap or transfer
service when tonnage can be handled
by motor truck or wagon.
(5) By reducing the diversion and
reconsignment od cars to a mini

wilt take place, and at the same time

an be prevented.

Passing Your Plate for
a Second Helping
Theresa an expression of pleasure on the face of the hostess
when you pass your plate for a second helping. It is con
clusive evidence that her food has pleased you.
We have noted with equal pleasure the number of cus
tomers, who have returned each day for more "Domestic
Bread, Buns, Rolls, etc. They are passing their plate for
a second and third "helping.”
DOMESTIC BREAD IS ON SALE AT
YOUR GROCER’S
ASK FOR “DOMESTIC” BYNAME
Your Grocer would rather please you than not. He is not
going to force out-of-town bread on you. If you’ll ask
for "DOMESTIC”—bv name—he’ll send you Americus-
made "Domestic Bread.”
All of the above suggestion* are
practicable and can be followed with
out substantial loss to any. Anr in
this connection it should be borne in
mind that the gain to be expected
from such co-operation is or tne most
substantial kind. For without it,
urges the Director General, a serious
lack of transportation facilities
threatened. Unusually heavy coal
and grain movement, deferred repair
and construction of highways in all
*rta of the country, and the needs of
suddenly reviving business combine
he says, with the usual transporta-
tation requirements in creating con
ditions that render the shortage im
minent.
By intensive loading and expedi
tions -unloading, not only would
freight car efficiency be increased,
but congestion at terminals would
be in large measure relieved.
The serious results that would fol
low on a shortage of transportation
facilities during the coming season
are obvious. 'That no effort should
be spared to avoid them is urged as
a matter of self-interest as well as
an obligation of good citizenship. Es
pecially is this true In view of-the
fact that the co-opemtlon ask for
can be given at no greater expense
than the exercise of reasonable care
on the part of shippers and receiv
ers of freight.

A feature of the Sumter county

.nt manger of the fair, will be a
ubiic sale of pedigreed live stock,
to take place on Friday, October
7, at 2 p. m. At that time a choice
ot of Duroc Jerseys and Poland
China hogs will be offered for sale,
t is expected that there will be at i
east 25 animals in the lot, and the '
■umber may go considerably beyend
liat figure.
According to Mr. Marshal) the live
tock and poultry exhibits at the !
Sumter county fair will bs most
creditable. After visiting the Mus
cogee fair yesterday, he stated that
the Sumter poultry exhibit will be
probably three times as large as that
seer at Columbus, with birds of just
as high grade. “The cattl i exhib

at Columbus,’’ said he “but the ani-

There are three important ingre- !
dienta in Dr. Williams 101 Tonic,
each one of which has an important .
duty. They are Quinine, Iron and j
Magnesia. The quinine in the tonic j
cleart the blood of all influenza', :
malaria or other harmful germs. The j
iron builds up the rich, healthy, ,
strengthening blood which {tuts stam
ina into the weakened body, and th”
magnesia acts gently on the liver and
bow,'Is, cleaning away the accumu
lated. poisons.
This combination is of known
worth for the treatment of Colds,
LaGrippe, Fever, Chills, Influenza,
and Malaria.
