Americus, subject to the rules of the
county primary to he held March 3.
His announcement came at noon, dis
posing of rumors that have been cur

would run and that he would not.
The announcement of Mr. Fort
precipitates what is expected to be
an interesting race for the office.
Judge W. M. Harper, who holds the
place at present and has presided
over the City Court for a number of
vears, had already announced for re

JACKSON, Ga., Jan. 2d.—Char
acterizing the Cotton Bank and Trust
corporation as the only pi^cticable
feasible plan ever devised to extend
financial aid to the cotton Jrrowers
of the South, Governor Hugh Dorsey
addressing citizens of Butts coun
ty, predicted a great future for that
institution. The governor declared
the time is ripe for such an institu
tion and said the farmers of the
South are in a position to finance
the bank. Times have changed, said

| of the South which is now loaning
money to the North.
Commissioner of Agriculture J. J.
Brown and President J. H. Mills, of
the Farmers’ Union, accompanied the
governor. Mr. Brown made a short
talk warmly endorsing the Cotton
I Bank and Trust corporation. A num
ber of shares were subscribed for at
the meeting.

CHECKING TRADING.
NEW YORK, Feb. 4.—The col
lapse in fcreign exchange brought
trading virtually to a standstill to-
i day. The demand for sterling fell to

to 15 cents and lire checks to 18.15

At 12:45 o’clock demand sterling
was 'gelling at $3.19. Stock trading
continued, governed by tho exchange
