THE
SKINNER TO BE
SEEN ITKISMET’
One Of Greatest Piavs
Comine In Films For
2 Days
Of great importance to Americus
amusement lovers is the announce
ment of Manager McCord Prather, of
the Alcazar, that he has obtained
“Kismet,” with Otis Skinner, for
showing at his theater Thursday and
Friday.
“Kismet,” which Skinner made
famous on the stage, was a wonder
ful play. Because of its size and cost
it could not play in Americus or
other cities of this size. It visited
Atlanta and Macon and thrilled
thousands. Now it may be seen on
even a grander scale by Americus
people at their own pleasure and con
venience.
“Kismet”—the greatest and most
picturesque drama ever written by an
American author, was produced and
became a theatrical triumph in both
the United States and Europe. Trans
lated into a dozen different tongues,
the story of the play has become u lit
erary classic throughout the world.
In the hole of Hajj, the Beggar, Otis
Skinner, greatest of American char
acter actors, thrilled his audiences
from, coast to coast for three contin*
uous seasons. Like wine, “Kismet”
has improved with age, until now we
are privileged to view it at its best in
f won derful film production. As
‘Kismet” was to the stage—one of
its greatest dramas—so it is to the
screen—one of its greatest photo
plays.
Standing at the top and unchal
lenged in the field of American char
acter actors is Otis Skinner. Belov
ed by the American people, this fam
ous son of Massachusetts represents
the finest type of talent and intelli
gence in the world of Thespia. Born
in Cambridge on June 28, 1868, and
a graduate of Tufts College, Mr.
Skinner began his theatrical career
in 1877. Before becoming a star
himself, he appeared prominently in
support of John McCullough. Booth
and Barrett, Madame Janauschek and
Mary Anderson. It is acknowledged
by critics and Mr. Skinner is pleased
to agree, that of the many triumphs
of his long and wonderful career, he
reached his greatest heights in the
portrayal of Hajj. the beggar, in
“Kismet.” It was with difficulty Mr.
Skinner was persuaded to appear on
the silver sheet in his greatest suc
cess. However, the desire to perpet
uate “Kismet” overcame his objec
tions and film fans are privileged to
see the greatest American character
actor in the greatest American
drama.

from work with plenty to eat, or a
day in the woods hunting? If it does
you have not held true to its purpose

Warns Auburn Eleven
In Turkey-Day Verse
Heralding tomorrow* gridiron
classic in Atlanta between Georgia
Tech and Auburn, D. C. Burkhalter,
formerly of Americus, but now of
Atlanta, has written fjr the Times
Recorder a bit of fjotbali verse
sounding- a warning to Auburn to
lookout for the Yellow Jackets’ sting.
Because of the number of alumni of
both schools living here and the wide
interest in the game, the verse wrt!l|
be gladly appreciated:
* WATCH 'EM MR. AUBURN.
The old Tornado’s warming up,
They’ve got all kinds of pep |
So Mister Auburn if you’re wise
You’d better watch your step.
They’re going to show you some-,
thing new
Now just mark what I say—
Before the battle’s ended
On the good old “Turkey day.
w s
You’ll see some football on that field
You never saw before.
So watch ’em Mister Auburn
Or they’ll sting you to the core.
For the Yellow Jackets’ sting is hard
And it takes a lot o’ brains
To keep the “milk fed” Barron
From pulling off some healthy
gains.
And one the plucky Flowers
Gets the ball fast in his grip
He’ll leave ’em laying ’round In heaps
As for the goal he skips.
And Judy the mighty “Juggernaut"
Will be right in the fray
He’ll show Ed Shirling something
On this here “Turkey day."
So watch ’em Mister Auburn
And keep right on your guard
For the Yellow Jackets' are out to
sting
And their sting is awful hard.
