The city administration has found
a Way to cut its street lighting bill
Ip half again, after reducing it by
about 2D per cent the first of May.
The saving will be effected by re
ducing the sfse of the street lamps,
which will give much less light, but
still permit the streets to be lighted.
Downtown the lamps will be reduced
from 800 candle power to 400, a
reduction of 831-3 per cent. In the
residence sections tno lamps will be
reduced from 260 candle .power to

SPECIAL COURT
FOR DOOLY RIOT
8uporfor court in this county foi
purpose of trying twcnty-foUr
gross, charged with murder, in con
nection with the racial clash at Byrom
vilie last week resulting in tha
of one white man, one negro and
wounding four other blacks.
The court set the date of June 6
for the convening of the special
term, at which time the grand Jury
will investigate the case. *
The trouble, which resulted in
fierce fighting between a deputised
posse headed by Sheriff Vinson and
gang of negroes barricaded in a
house with Fate Chapman as leader,
grew out of an effort on the part
of the town marshal of Byromville
to collect taxes from Fate Chapman.
The officer and the negro had a
fight which resulted in the wound
ing of the negro. The Officer left
the negro’s premises and that night,
it is alleged. Chapman summoned
ell of the blacks residing in th® negro
district of Byromville to his aid, with
a purpose in view ef slaying the town
marshal and shooting up the town.
Shortly before midnight heavy fir
ing was hears in the yleinty of Chap-
man's home. The sheriff was sum-
moned and he deputized a posse in
which young L. C Davis, who was on
his way to Fort Valley to pstk Mach
os, was a member. It was found
L—Jhat the negroes had barricaded
“themselves’in Chapman’s home and

of the crop under that size.
