Buchanan's, i (Snead’s old staud ) Those who have visited the scene of the bridge wreck on the Savannah, Griffin and North Alabama Railroad at Chattahoochee river say the debris furnishes very striking evidence that tbe timbers must have been in a hopeless state of decay some time before the accident occurred, and it is believed by some that the struc ture collapsed from sheer frailty rath er than from the effects ol tbe wind. One eireumstauce mentioned in sup port of this theory is that the timbers Mr. E. 8. Buchanan is * hooping up ■ fell in the heap; whereas, if the the mercantile traffic on his side of j structure had been unsettled by tbe town iu a way that has already given j force of the wind the timbers would bint prominence as one of our most : have fallen broadside. A novel stock enterprise, and one ! that gives promise of an unending j yield of sport and pleasure iu the near futore, was set ou foot last week by some of our prominent citizens, and permanent organization will be effected as soon as a charter can be ob tained. The company, which will be chartered under tbe name of the “Pearl Spring Park Association,”is com posed of fifty stockholders, the object being to construct a mammoth fish-pond aud stock it with choice varieties of fish. A suitable location has been found about two miles south of town, situated on a body of land belonging to Hon. \V. B. Berry, and about midway between the “Gordon” road and tbe old “State’’road. A small stream percolates through a natural basin at the point indicated, the whole beiug situated in tbe midst of a vast tract of original forest. It is pro posed to build a rock dam ten feet high at the lower extremity of the basin, which will insure the formation of a lake covet ing about ten acres in extent, and a depth of water averaging from three to ten feet. Summer houses, bath-houses, a danc ing hall, etc., will probably be erected on the margin of the Jake, and such other attractions added from time to time as will en. hance tbe popularity of the resort. Pleasure beats will be provided, also, for the benefit aud enjoyment of the members and their families. The privileges of the resort will be restrict ed exclusively to the stockholders and their immediate families. A cottage will be erected on the grounds, which will be tenanted by some responsible person as game-keeper, to prevent poaching. It is altogether the most attractive and practicable scheme for genuine enjoyment that could have been de vised, and all the shares (fifty iu num ber, and limited,) were promptly taken. Indeed, the value of the shares has already advanced fifty per cent., and none can be had even at this figure. Hon. W. B. Berry has conveyed to the association, gratuitously, a ten- year lease on the grounds, and at the expiration of the term we have no doubt that be will, with bis accus tomed liberality, renew the contract and perhaps extend the term indefi nitely. A preliminary meeting of the share holders was held, in the Court-house last Monday night—Hon. IV. Y. At kinson beiug in the chair and Mr. P. B. Murphey acting as secretary—at which time the plans and purposes of tbe association were discussed and au executive committee appointed. Tbe committee is constituted as billows: R. H. Hardaway, P. H. Brewster, M. G. Keith, I. N. Orr, P. S. Whatley, E. D. Fouse, J. I. Scroggio, M. F. Cole and A. O. Lyndon. The foil w- ing committee was also appointed to confer with Mr. Berry and secure a legal transfer of the proposed site: W. be quite a study to know where and how to begin, to keep from over-stock ing the market with trades that would come ir tbe line of nickel sales.
