As days go down the west, and tender stars All rimmed about with heavens blue conn forth And set their lightships in the trackless sea ios<; ughways stretch away from south tc north, I think l'.ow days have risen in the east And flashed like meteors from hill to hill, bet full of sunny hours, till evening came To elose them like rose petals soft and still. I watched thee in the breakers, when the rock Received our prow, when all was storm and fear, And bade thee cling to me through every shock; This arm would lx- thy bark, or breast thy bier. I watched thee when the fever glazed thine eyes. Yielding m3 - couch, and stretched me on the ground When overworn with watching, ne'er to rise From tlienee if thou an earlv grave liadst found. What the gymnasium is doing for the strength and vigor of the masses in some of our institutions of learning may be in ferred from a single illustration taken from the records at Harvard university. In the year 1880. 770 men were physic ally examined, 'flic strongest man out of this number showed in strength of lungs, back, legs, cie-st and arms, as in dicated on the chart, a grand total of 675.2. At the close of the summer term of the present year the highest strength test recorded was 1,272.8, and there were over 200 men in college whose total J strength test surpassed tin-highest test of 1880. This general gymnasium work is therefore reducing the one sided develop- i went once so common with athletic spe cialists. It must not be forgotten, however, that there is a development peculiar to the j runner, jumper, wrestler, oarsman, gym- j nast, hall player, heavy lifter, etc., and anone familiar with athletics at the | present day can easily rcccgnize one of i these, specialists. It was while I was in tills deplorable condition that the claims made for Kaskine, the new quinine, as a specific for malaria, were first brought to my attention. I knew nothing of its value to justify my having any conlideuce in it, hut as everything else** had failed 1 deemed it my duty to try it. so I began its use, and its prompt and radical ef fects were of tin* nature of a revelation to me. Main' people may think the statement scared}'credible, hut it is a fact that after only a few days' use o!
