For the information of our Turin cor
respondent we will state that §7.50 per
share is all that has been offered or
paid for the stock of the Savannah,
Griffin and North Alabama Railroad
at this point, Stockholders are not
obliged to sell, of course, but if they
refuse the offer of §7.50 per share, af
ter February 1st they may not be able
to realize anything. Proceedirfgs will
be commenced at the February term of
Spalding Superior Court to foreclose
the mortgage held by the Central road.
AATien the ; property is sold, if the
amount realized is in. excess of the
mortgage claim the stockholders will
receive their pro rata share of the ex
cess; but if the property sells for
enough only to satisfy the mortgage,
the stock will of course lie valueless.
AVe are frank to say that we do not
understand the situation well enough
to venture a suggestion as to the best
course to be pursued. It may be best
to hold on to th* stock and await de
velopments, or it may be best to sell
now.

Additional subscriptions to the
ajaount of -§>'11300 were reported as hav-
iig been seeured since date of last
ago. He proposed to sell the old fair
grounds property, containing about
twenty-five acres, for §2,000, and take
stock for the full amount, in addition
to a money subscription of §5,000. He
amended this proposition Tuesday by
agreeing to erect tenant houses on the
grounds sufficient to accommodate the
factory operatives and lease them to
the company at a uniform rental of §2
per month.
The question of location is yet under
advisement, and we have confidence
enough in the judgment and foresight
of the directors to feel assured that
they will be controlled in tlie matter
by a spirit of conservatism and disin
terestedness. The factory itself is of
so much more importance to the town
and community, the question of loca
tion should be (and can well afford to
he) of secondary consideration. It will
benefit the town, no matter in what
quarter located, and eve sincerely trust
there will be no difference of opin
ion in determining this point.
Alessrs. N. B. Glover and J. P Brews
ter were appointed a committee to
make application for a charter, by pub
lishing the usual citation prior to the
March term of our Superior Court, the
corporate name of tlie company to be
“The Newnan Cotton Alills.”
Capt. Bob Hiirdaway doesn’t have a
great deal to say, but he contrives some
how to secure subscriptions where al
most any other man would fail. He
turns up at every meeting with a fresh
list.
One of our citizens has promised that
when the subscription list reaches
§60,000 he will drop in enough to make it
$70,000—and he is not a banker, either.
As the total amount subscribed closely
approximates this figure already, he will
have an opportunity soon to make liis
promise good, and there is no question
either as to his ability or inclination to
do so.
