OBITUARY.
Mai berry S. Smith was born in Pike
county, Ga., February Sell, ls29, anil
died in Grautville, Ga., August 19th,
18S8. His parents moved from Pike
county to Coweta when he was quite
-mall. He was happily married to Miss
Jennie Fa riba, March IS, 1858. He leaves
a wife and four children to mourn his
death. A more devoted husband and af
fectionate father never lived. He was al
ways ready to gratify every desire of
his loved ones, and lie was loved and re
spected by them. lie joined the Meth
odist cl lurch when quite young, and
lived a consistent member of the same.
Being of a quiet, modest temperament,
he was not prominent in the affairs of
church or State, but always manifested
a deep concern in the welfare of both,
lie lived and enjoyed the religion he
professed to a much greater degree
than was known, except by those who
knew him best.
Mr. Smith was always on the right
side of every question that involved
principles and morals. The prohibition
cause had a very strong advocate in him,
anil the success of prohibition in our
town was largely due to his untiring ef
forts. Grautville realizes that she has
lost one of her best and most public-
spirited citizens.
A good and true man has gone from
us. We tender our sympathy and con
dolence to the bereaved ones, and com
mend them to look to Him who doetli
all things well, for help and comfort in
this their dark hour of affliction.
