The Harp > n Ireland. The earliest allusion to the use of the harp in Ireland is made in a descrip tion of the hall of Tara, written (as Petrie informs' e.s) in the Sixth n- turv, wherein it is stated that in the Third century places were set apart in the hall for the harpers. There is still extant, also, a poem on the death of Colombo, written in 594, ,'hich was original tv sung with a harp accom paniment and the fact duly chronicled. Later, a harp was found carved in an ancient stone cross in l Hard ehureii- vard.
