“MAY THEY REST IN PEACE.’’
In Memory of John P. Lester.
Again have tlie “pearly gates” been
thrown open; God’s messenger has
come once more and left his awful sum
mons; another loved one has been tak
en, another happy circle broken, and
many hearts are heavy with grief.
On the 26th ult. John F. Lester was
called to his eternal home. How uncer
tain is human life ! Only a vapor gilded
by a sunbeam; only a breath of air and
a beat of the heart between this world
and the next.
God in His infinite wisdom knows
best, yet it seemed so hard to give him
up. Ilis death was an event so unlook
ed for, so out of the true order of na-
t ure. When those are called who have
entered the evening of life, we know it
is Nature’s course, but when the young
are summoned our hearts are laden wit li
grief. Jusl entering the arena of active
life, the very type of true manhood,
and yet impartial fate has claimed him!
Mis brief life is o’er. How sorrowful xve I
feel when we realize that lie is no lon-
and mother.
