' OBITUARIES.
Hall.—Fell asleep, May 20th, 1800,
Mrs. Sarah It. Hall, wife of Rev. J. II.
Ilall, D. D., pastor of Newnan Baptist
church.
It is no fulsome praise to liken this
modern woman of faith to the women
of patriarchal and apostolic times. So
strong was her faith that not only did
she pray, but could interpret answers to
her petitions.
Like Hezekinh of old, years were add
ed to her life. When her children were
little ones about her, and she was
brought by disease to the gates of
Death, she earnestly asked God to pro
long her life that she might bring up
her children. When she arose, from
that sick bed she felt that she had this
promise. So she looked well to the
ways of her household and brought up
her children in the “nurture and admo
nition of the Lord.” At her death her
youngest child had entered woman
hood. In the light of recent ovents wo
should have known that the time of
her departure was at hand. Thus nre
the prophesies and promises of God ful
filled before us and our.iblinded eyes
fail to seel
Our church was an especial object of
her prayers, and has been blessed above
her asking. For individuals, too, she
earnestly prayed. Her "prayers are
ended,” but let us hope that some of
the “golden vials full of sweet odors”
are hers. In years to come we expect
to leceivo blessings in answer to these
prayers before the Throne.
Gifted by Nature with an nrtist’seye,
a poet’s heart, a quick mind and a san
guine temperament, this beautiful
world must have held charms for her.
Hut she resisted their allurements, and
her chief desire was the cause of Christ
uud His second coming.
But a deep peace haslsettled over her.
The busy hands are still and the bright
eyes dim. Her soul now realizes the
most ecstatic truth a creature can know
-that she is sinless, immortal, redeem
ed, forever and forever, by the blood of
the Lamb. Isora IL Hardaway.
Hcllky.—On the 16th of May, 1800,
Mrs. Martha G. Ililley died at her resi-
, deuce in Newnan, Ga.
She was taken with typhoid dysentery
—that malignant form of disease which
comes like the storm that blasts the
blossoms of spring—and in the short
space of four weeks swept off the loved
• mother, leaving four childrou to mourn
her loss. Deceased was in her 06th
year, and lmd been a consistent mem
ber of the Baptist church for forty
years. "Her dovotion to her children
was proverbial, and the hours flew by
on noiseless wings when her busy fln-
, gors plied their many tasks for hurtnva-
lid daughter, who now lies prostrated
from grief at the loss of her mother. It
has pleased the Heavenly Father to
take her from among us, and transfer
her to a higher and nobler sphere,
iwhere the redeemed are continually
singing praises around the Throne.
In her death we have 'sustained a loss
heavy, indeed, and one ever to be
mourned; but wo mourn for her as ono
only gone before, who has lain down
' the crosses and cares of this life for the
never-ending joys and blessings of
; heaven. While we feel exceedingly
sad at her departure from among us,
we are animated with the thought that
‘ her spirit yet lives, and the hope that
we will see her again. We hope our
momentary loss is her eternal gain, and
that we will all try to meet her in the
everlasting home in heaven. Peace to
her body, heaven for her spirit, and
sweet memories ever cluster around her
honored name. A Friend.
Byram.— It has pleased our All-wise
' Father, whose ways are sometimes
mysterious but always right, to remove
from the midst of family and friends
• Brother James A. Byram, a good citi-
’ zea and a useful member of society.
Deceased was born in Coweta county
March 6th, 1817, and died at his home
in Coweta county April 1st, being, at
the time of his death, 72 years and 20
days old.
Brother Byram had Jong been known
and esteemed as a citizen of Coweta
county. In reviewing his past life we
lind there were many noble traits de
veloped in his character. Possessing a
high sense of honor, he lived an up
right, honorable, conscientious life-
true to the position in which Providence
had placed him. He was afflicted for
several years before his death, but bore
1 his suff rings patiently. During his last
illness he was fully sensible that death
' was drawing near, but like a true Cbris-
,tian expressed himself ready for the Sa
vior’s call. In the family circle he was
sympathizing and considerate, a kind
husband and a thoughtful, indulgent
^father#
In May, 1870, he made a public pro
fession of faith in Christ and united
svith Sardis Baptist church, and was A
faithful, consistent member, giving loy
al devotion to the Great King.
'Another soldier lays his cross down,
Exchanges now the wuyfure for the crown,
And now has reached the blissful heavenly
shore
Whore every grief is hushed and all his trials
o’er.
