FROM OUR CORRESPONDENTS.
n.1 nt ami abstract of doctrines, which
were nilopted by those whose names
were enrolled, niter which I>r. J. II.
Hall, acting as chairman for the presby
tery and Kev. V. A. Nam acting as sec
retary, the presbytery voted approval.
Rev. .1. It. S. Davis led in prayer. Then
the presbytery, together with the fol

rors. Writing of the broken arm of recognition^vU: Deacons, II. F.^Cock,

Rain is needed.
we said it was set by Dr. Culpep
per, when it should have been Dr.
Rrantly. Also, of the parties visiting
Dr. Cowan, when it should have imen
Dr. Armstrong. Whether these tilings
are due to carelessness or the hot
weather we do not know, nut will cred
it them to tlio fanner.
The temperature here readied 118 de
grees on Monday r. St. nt II o'clock, in
the shade. Tire last days of June were
extremely hot.
We have intended to write a bout the
strawberry crop of Mr. It. Iverson,
and will predent sonn facts about it.
He lias abnvt three-fourths of an acre
in all. He began to gather about the
15th of April, and is gathering yet. He
has sold over 1,000 quarts, netting him
not less than *100, iiesldes supplying
several families around him gratis. The
whole probable cost of the cultivation,
gathering,.ami baskets will not exceed
f 10, and nearly all of them have been
sold here ist home. This is one of the
evidences of what can bo dono by pro
per attentikm to theso small industries.
Kvery family ought to have a strawber
ry patch. The cost is little, and
the return for the money, time
and labor spent is simply wonder
ful; besides, the fruit equals, if it does
not surpass, all others as a luxury.
Many of >»« are too indilTeroiit to the
wortli and value of t hese small crops.
Everytfnmlly should give some of their
time und attention to them. They will
pay heavy ret urns for the small outlay
incurred

sermon being one of deep thought and
great power. At S r. M. Rev. J. R. S.

and appreciative audience. Thus ended
the first meeting of this infant clmrcli,
which. It is hoped, may in future prove
a great blessing to the ont ire communi

voices wero lift oil in praise to Him unto
whom praise is due. The delegation
was composed of Mr. W. T. Arriull and

Since 1 heard the Rblo speeches of
Messrs. Atkinson, Terrell atsj Good-
wyn on Thursday last, and what they
said about tlieir tine records in the Leg
islature, etc,, the question arose in my
mind that if they should be sent back
and then spoil it all. what a sad tiling
. .. . , it would tie! I give them full praise
According to appointment tire follow- for w | lllt they have done a. legislators
mg named ministers met m tins place lor ,. he people 1 of the State, including
on Saturday last to approve the organi- me and "Buck." We have lived and
zation of a Baptist church, via: Dr. J.
lature making appropriations to edu
cate those who are able to educate
themselves. Very few of those who
get the benelit of what is known as
“higher education” ever locate in the
country, but usually find tlieir way to
the cities and demand high salaries for
tlieir services.
When Mrs. “Ripples” read in tlie pa
per what the editor said about my
maiden speech in the campaign meet
ing at Newnan, she said, “I am asham
ed of you, getting up there before all
them big folks and exposing your ig
norance.” Rut when I told her I had
just a* well get used to it, for 1 got ap
plause enough to elect me to the Leg-
Mature, she said, "Well, gee up ‘Ruck,'
and make a record.” I am receiving
encouragement and congratulations
every day from friends in different
parts of the county and other sections
of the State to make the race, and I
don’t see how I can refuse. Dr. Jim
Taylor, of Lutherville, sends me word
tlint lie will go around witli “Buck"
and myself in the First district, mid if
either of us fall by the wayside lie will
undertake to restore us. So, with dry
food mid a camphor bottle we feel that
we will he able to pull through. Strong
friends and a heap of ’em beat all tlie
records.
Mrs. Smith, formerly tlie Widow
Besheers, was buried at Liberty ceme

Mr. Willio Summerlin is quite sick.
I see that Col. Henry R. Harris is
running on his record, too, for Congress,
and I reckon Col. Tom Grimes will
mount Ids in a few days. Don't know
wlint sort of a horse Co). Moses will
ride to Congress. Guess he is doing like
me and "Buck”—running on his merit,
witli t'lie hope of making a record for
the second trip. And thou there is
Judge Sam Harris. Don't know what
sort of a “ereetur" he is riding, but if
lie gets there lie will make a living
record,-
Tho weather is distressingly hot and

That tired feeling now so often heard
of, is entirely overcome by Hood’s Sar

Third District.
Crops are generally good. Day labor
lias been scarce and rains rather partial,
but if there nro no providential cnuscs
to injure our crops wo will make more
cotton than any district in tho county,
and us much corn. Wlieat and oats
generally sorry, ntul fruit a failure, ex
cept apples—there will bo a few of tlie
latter. Almost, If not every white fam
ily, will liave hogs to kill.
We would like for some of the big
railroad magnates to build a railroad
from Carrollton through our district to
Grantville, and on to Savannah <*r
Brunswick. If we did not have to luul
our cotton, guano, corn and meat «o
far, our farm expense would be agccul
deal less, and our wagons and stock
would all last louger. But from the
reformat ion that is going on among the
farmers it will not be long until thoy
liave tlieir corn and meat all raised at
homo. Tho prospects for the farmer
are certainly briglitning.
We hud a primary election ou last

As good, law-abiding citixeus we think

ninny strange faces out, and it may
Imvo-been tlmt they belonged to the
election board sent out to fix np things.
It appears so, from the returns. You
can pilot tell “Ripples” and “Buck” iif
they are not one of them they will sure
ly tuinton tho wayside, and lie had as
well>keep "Hock" to get his “sapling
