NEWNAN, GA., FRIDAY, OCT. 19.
ONE DOLLAR A YEAR.
WALKS AND TAI.KS,
Messis. Fitts and Malone, the defeated
candidates for the Legislature on the
Democratic ticket in Carroll county,
have announced that they will not con
test tho election, although it is stated
that scores of illegal votes were cast-
more than enough to insure the election
of theso gentlemen, if a contest were
made.
While the defeated candidates arc dis
posed to let the matter rest, however,
their friends are not, and at the recent
adjourned term of Carroll Superior Court
seventy-five or a hundred illegal voters
were indicted by the grand jury. Cn roll
county has always prided herself upon
her big Democratic majorities, but her
chief pride has been the fairness with
which these majorities have been ob
tained. There is a general feeling of in
dignation, therefore, that so proud a re
cord should have been broken in tho late
election—a coutest, too, in which good
government and white supremacy were
tho issuos at stake.
There was a good deal of illegal voting
in Coweta, also, and our next grand jury
will probably have its hands full investi
gating tho numerous charges that will
be preferred. The voting-lists used
in the late election will be preserved, and
there will be no difficulty in establishing
tho identity of those who voted illegally.
It is said there are names on these lists
that were never heard of in Cowota until
the election.
Tim Third partyitps ip CiWOll uro so
dated over their recent success that they
have started out to capture tho county,
On Saturday last they hold a county con
vention at Carrollton and put out a full
ticket for county officers. Tho ticket, as
nominated, is as follows: Clork, J. F.
Durott; Shoriff, W. L. Kinney; Tax Col
lector, T. J. Jackson; Tax Receiver, J.
The Nuptial TIo.
The marriage of Mr. Harry II. Briggs
and Miss Stella Fouse at the Methodist
church on Wednesday evening last was
quite a happy affair—a consummation of
love’s brightest dream, in all tho essen
tials that make up the sum of human
happiness—an event that marked tho
union of “two souls with but a single
thought, two hearts that heat as one.”
The nuptials had boon quietly an
nounced several days previously, and a
large crowd gathered at tho church to
witness the ceremony, which took place
at 8 o’clock. At the appointed hour tho
bride and gloom presented themselves
at the altar, when Rev. II. W. Bighatn, in
a brief but impressive manner, pro
nounced the beautiful rites which made
them man and wife. Except tho floral
decorations, there was no attempt what
ovor at display. The bride was attired
in a neat fitting tailor-mado suit of white
cloth, and carried a bunch of bride roses
in her hand. The groom wore a dark
suit, with white tie. There were no at
tendants, and the entire arrangements
were as simplo as thoy were sensible.
Miss Daisy Teddy presided at tho organ
ntid played tho “Wedding March.”
After the ceremony a few friends wore
invited to the homo of tho bride’s pa
rents, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Fouse, where
dainty refreshments wore servod from 9
until 10, and an Informal reception was
held.
Tho bride is one of Nownan’s most es
timable and accomplished ladies, and ex
tremely popular in the social circle of
which she is so charming a member.
Tho groom is equally esteemed, both
for liis personal worth and for his excel
lent business quMilleations, and tho un
ion is in all respects a happy uno.
The young couple havo tho best wishes
of their numerous friends, including

licking his chops with the air of a

comfortably, and there was an aroma of

negro votes. In fact, he is out of sight,
as the boys say.
