anticipation and surmise.
From an early hour this raoininj the
main thoroughfares of the city were
crowded with ail anxious, caper
t hrong, waiting for the street parade—
which had been advertised to take
place at 0 o’clock—and many people
occupied seats in the windows of houses
and stores along the route. Ii was a
pre-eminent feature of m • crown—
composed as it was for the nost part ol
women and children—that it was or
derly, patient, and extreue ly good na
lured. They hung on with a tenacity
pun of kindled hopes, and the rarity
of ilie occasion, till long alter II, being

able to say that tile Walter J. Main
circus street parade is unsurpassed in
every direction by any previous effort

this city for years. At Norfolk lid

music to gladden the heart, while lhe
eye feasted, from four large and t fli

The same descriptive terms will a,%
ply to tho entire show. It if unques
i ionably one of the biggest and most
stupendous aggregations evor put to
pitlier for the amusement of ( lie public
in this country, and it reflects tho great
est credit upon tho skill, enterprise and
dairng of its projector, Mr. Walter L.
Main. It is-pre-eminently a feature of
this particular show that everything
connected with it is lositively first,
class. Such a gathering of pertorniers,
such a collection of rate animals and
splendid horses, such gorgeous trap

trained animals, and in fact everything

circus or hippodrome show. In every
instance a success!ul effort has been
made 10 get together tho best perform
ers in their various lines. For a sam
ple—in the exhibitions of equestrian
ism, bareback acts were simultaneously
performed by Mile. F.leno aud Mr.
Frank Miller, either of whom would be
considered an amply strong feature for
the bareback riding event of any ordi
nary show.
Mr. and Mrs. Nutty did a very pretty
and effective hit of riding, introducing
a carrying feat thnt was both clever
and novel. Au amazing feature of the
show was an aerial specialty of Messrs.
Stirk and Zeno, wh > fairly electrified
the audience with their perilous perfor
mance in mid-air, introducing a Hying
double somersault, which the mauage-
one expects to Hnd behind those g

beauty of the fat woman, and the shim

The exhibition includes Zazolle, 1 he !
snake-charmer; Mrs. McClure, the
mind reader; Freda, the swerd walker;,
Gazza, the strong woman, who chat- 1
lenges any six men in tho audience to
force to the ground an ordinary stool
which she holds in Inr hands; a tat
tooed mau, and a South Af 1iicaii, who
would seem to ho a connection ot the
wild man of Borneo. .
