ness, in the l)2d year of his age. The re

A potition is being circulated asking
for tho establishment of a postofficu at
Coweta, tho new station on tho Atlanta
and West Point road, between l’owol-
villo and Palmotto. Tho petition has
boon numerously signed, and tlv office
will probably he established as soon us
tho usual preliminaries can bo arranged.
We are pleased to note a growing dis
position on the part of our farmers to
provide good barns and stables for thoir
stock. Tho latest improvement of this
sort that wo have noted in the communi
ty is the commodious and hundsomo
barn recently completed by Mr. F. M.
Loo, one of our most progressive aud
successful farmers.
Mr. W. A. Herring has (lone some of
the best fanning thii year that wo have
heard of. lie has fifty acres of cotton
that will average one thousand pounds
per acre, and fifteen acres that will make
a hale to the acre, lie has gathered five
hundred bushels of corn, and peas ga
lore. The above crops were produced
on a two-horse farm.
W. If. Bentley, who has been tunning a.
colored restaurant on tho north side of
tho square, was arrested a few days ago
and lodged in jail. He is detained on
four warrants, either of which is suffi
cient to land him in the penitentiary.
Ho is a slick nigger, aud is said to have
a record that includes nearly all tho
crimes in the decalogue.

Prof. S. G. Oit assumed charge of tho
school at Lone Oak on Monday last, of
which he was recently elected principal.

dance on opening day, and the prospects
are flattering for a successful term. Mrs.

Gov. Atkinson mid family loft for At
lanta on the 7 o’clock train Saturday
morning. Quito a number of friends as
sembled at tho depot to see them off,
and a still larger number bad arranged
to go up on tho 10:20 train to witness tho
inaugural ceremonies, but the train was
an hour and thirty minutes late. Those
who did go arrived too late for tho inau
guration.
Mr. Frank Pearson and his accom
plished wife, accompanied by Mr. Chas
Price, all of Atlanta, will give an unique

The commitment trial of John Nor
wood, for the iceont, killing of Charlie
Tatum, took place last woek, and after
a full investigation tho prisoner was dis
charged from custody. Judge Swlnt
conducted the examination, and, after
hearing argument on both sides, lie do
elded t hat the State ha I failed to mak
it appear that tho killing was premodi
tated or malicious. Tho State was re
resented by Orlando McClendon, J. S
Powell unil J. M. Harrington, while
S. Whatley and W. I.. Stallings appeared
for the defense. A good deal of syinpu
thy has |been expressed for Norwood
since tho unfortunate killing, and Jvdgu
Swint’s decision is generally approved.

year took place on Wednesday evening
last, at tho residence of Mr. and Mrs.
II. Wideuor, when Mr. Walter L. Wole
was united in marriage to Miss Minnie
M. Ellis, daughter of thu late Hon. David
Ellis, of Greenville, Ga.
The ceremony was performed by Dr,
Jus. Stacy, in his usual impressive man
nor, and was witnessed only by tho im
mediate members of tho family and
few select friends. Tho rooms were
beautifully decorated with autumn flow
ers, and an elegant array of bridal pres
ents added to t lie brilliancy of the scene,

proceeded to tho homo of the groom

held.
The popular young couple start out i
life under very happy auspices, and it

It is ordered by the Democratic K.xoc-
utivo Committee of ^oweta county, Ga.:
1. 'Plnit a primary election lie held in
said county on Tuesday, Novumhor (ItU,
I mu I, for the iiiirposu of nominating can
didates for Llit) following offices: Clark
of the Superior Court, Sheriff, Tax Col
lector, Tax Receiver, Treasurer, County
Surveyor and Coroner.
2. Tho voting shall lie direct for the
candidates, and the persons receiving
thu highest number of votes for thu offi
ces for which they are candidates shall
ho declared the nominees of the Demo
cratic party of said county,for such of
fices.
8. All persons who are Democrats and
qualified to vote for members of the Gen
eral Assembly shall he permitted to vote
in said election, and may vote iu any dis
trict of the county.
4. That tlie polls lie opened in each
district, at thu regular voting products
in said districts, from H o’clock a', m. to
8 o’clock i’. m., except at the Newnan
precinct, where the polls shall lie open
from 7 o’cloek a. m. to (I o’clock i>. m.
5. Any three Democrats who are qual
ified to vote in said election may act as
managers of said election, and each of

tering upon the discharge of his duties
shall take and subscribe before some of

and if no such officer can lie conveniently
