Progress of the Confederate Reunion
at Augusta.
The reunion of the Georgia divis

ans is now just two weeks off and
gives promise of unusual interest, be
cause of the fact that the South Car

erans has been invited to meet with
their Georgia comrades, aud from the
central location of Augusta it is iu
easy reach of both States.
The arrangements have been about
completed by the various committees,
and ail wbo come, whether veteran
or not, will be assured of a cordial re
ception, and the citizens of Augusta
have determined to make this reun
ion occasion a memorable .one in
every respect.
Aside from the pleasure of meeting
again and mingling with olff comrades
and friends, the veterans will find
pleasure in seeing tbe street shows,
which will be put on by tbe Elks
lodge for the entertainment of ail
wbo may attend the reunion.
Mr. E. B. Pilcher, as chairman of
the bureau of information, has made
every effort possible to secure homes
for all who come, and lists of boarding
places, prices, etc., will be given out
at the general headquarters. A pos
tal sent to Mr. E. B. Pilcher will se
cure board in advance for any one
who intends coming to the reunion.
The services of competent boys have
been secured, who will conduct all
visitors to boarding-houses, if such
visitors, upon reaching the city, will
come at once to tbe headquarters iu
the Leonard building.
Let all who possibly can go to Au
gusta for the reunion and great
Elks’ carnival and spend from Nov.

John Robinson’s Circus.
The Chattanooga Times has tbe fol
lowing to say of John Robinson’s
Circus, which exhibits here Wednes
day, 21st inst.: I —, .
“John Robinson's Circus showed in Some idea of the enormous extent
this city yesterday, and, in spite of to which pickpocketing flourishes may
inclement weather, presented a hand- i be had from the fact that in London
Borne street parade and drew a large alone over 100,000 men, women and
crowd to both performances. \ children exist on what they can re-
“Ttae show was weli worth the price ; lieve other people of.
of admission to even the most fastid- | —— ———
ious. The menagerie, though small,
presented a better selection than is to i
bft found in most traveling shows,
many of the animals being rare and
unusual. For example, the cage con
taining three representative South
American animals, a large Brazilian
tapir, a peccary and a capybora,
proved quite an attraction for children ;
just entering geography. Among the
rare animals that attracted attention
was an enormous European wild boar,
a pair of otters, something which few
shows have, and which are neverthe
less among the most interesting of
animals; a cage of magnificent white
pelicans, kangaroos, seals, a striped
hyena, etc. The cat, antelope and
ox families were fully represented.
“The Solomon and Queen of Sheba
feature is perhaps the most instruc
tive attraction in the United States.
The scenery, arms, costuming, cha
riots, everything, in fact, is a faithful
and exact copy of everything that
was worn, possessed or inhabited by
the ancient Israelites and Egyptians,
as rovealed by the discoveries of
archeologists. This performance was,
therefore, a treat to the learned, and
a world of instruction to those who
had read the bible, but who had nev
er witnessed as faithful a reproduction
of bible times as was presented in this
short drama.
Robinson’s show also presented a
large number of new ring features.
Among the most amusing as well as
interesting was the trainer, who,
dressed as a farmer, walked into the
ring driving a dozen pigs. Many
supposed be was a simple-minded in
truder, until the porkers began climb
ing ladders, see-sawing, and doing
other “stunts,” that took the audi
ence by surprise and delighted them.
“In all other respects tbe show was
qui^e up to tbe advertisements, and
tbe andience went away delighted.”
