A NEW YEAR’S THOUGHT.
Let us walk softly, friend,
For stranRe paths lie before us, all untrod;
The New Year, spotless from the hand of God,
la thine and mine, O friend!
Let us walk straiRhtly, friend;
Forget the crooked paths behind us now;
Press on with steadier purpose on our brow
To better deeds, O friend!
Let us walk gladly, friend:
Perchance some greater good than we have
known
Is wailing for us, or some fair hope flown
Shall yet return, 0 fiiendl

On Friday evening last, at Lovejoy
Memorial parsonage, Rev. A. L. Sans-
burn officiating, Mr. Preston L. Taylor
was united in marriage/to Miss Alleta
Leigh. The event was a pleasant sur
prise to their many friends, but few of
whom even suspected that the young
collide meditated matrimony, and they
have been showered with congratula
tions and good wishes since. Until re
cently Mr. Taylor was connected with
the Johnson Hardware Co. as book
keeper and salesman, and is one
of Newnan’s best-known young men.
The bride is the youngest daugh
ter of Mrs. Sam P. Leigh, and is a
most worthy and popular young wo
man, esteemed bv all who know her.
They have our best wishes.
Mr. J. T. Smith and Miss Lizzie
Treadaway gave their friends a pleasant
surprise Wednesday evening by getting
married. While they had been sweet
hearts for some time, and were known
to be warmly attached, it was not sus
pected that they contemplated marri
age so early. They decided, however,
that they had waited long enough, and,
invoking the priestly offices of Rev. J.
F. Singleton Wednesday evening, they
were made husband and wife.- Mr.
Smith is the plant foreman of the
Southern Bell Telephone Co., and Jone
of the company’s most trusted and val
ued employees. The bride is the at
tractive young daughter of Mrs. W. C.
Treadaway, and has a wide circle of
friends, all of whom wish her and the p
man of her choice much happiness and
prosperity in the years to come.
At the home of the bride’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs, Harmon C. Baker, 6
miles south of Tilton, Wednesday after
noon, Dec. 23, their daughter, Miss
Janie Baker, and Mr. Harvey L. Car
michael were united in the holy bonds
of wedlock, Rev. Jas. Carmichael,
uncle of the groom, performing the
ceremony in a most impressive manner.
After the ceremony an elegant and
elaborate wedding dinner was served.
Mrs. Carmichael, as Miss Baker, was
very popular throughout this section,
where she is liked for her many lovable
trails of character. Mr. Carmichael,
who is a son of Mr. P. T. Carmichael,
is a rising young farmer, and is to be
congratulated on winning such a
charming young woman for his bride.
Between thirty and forty guests were
present at the marriage.- Tifton Ga
zette.
Wednesday night Wahoo Tribe, No.
46, I. O. It M., held a public meeting,
and installed officers. After the beau
tiful installation ceremony, which was
impressively conducted by Mr. J. C.
Leach, lion. S. E. Leigh presented
Rev. A. E. Sansburn with a gold watch-
chain and charm on behalf of the Red
Men, as a token of their appreciation
of a sermon preached by him a few
weeks ago on the principles of Ked-
manship, at Lovejoy Memorial church.
Mr. Sansburn responded in a few ap
propriate remarks, accepting the chain
as a golden bond of friendship, after
which Mr. II. S. Banta entertained the
audience with several choic- selections
on the graphophono. The programme
being completed, all were invited to
partake of "corn and venison, ” which
was served as only the Newnan Red
Men can serve-- with bounty and hos
pitality.

A Saving
For You....
We want every discriminat
ing purchaser of drugs and
medicines —those who have no
money to squander in keeping
up expensive credit systems -
to know that we are giving
to per cent, rebates to cash
customers. This means you
can buy all $1. items for 90c.,
50c. items for 45c., and so on.
There are about a dozen items
in our stock which this does
not' include; but we have told
1
you about this before. We
have always thought that the
man who ilays cash for his
goods is entitled to a bettor
price than the person paying
in 30 days; but, so far as we
know, we are the first to give
a rebate in cash on the spot.
Since Holt & Cates took
charge of this business seven
years ago its every aim and ob
ject has been to serve its pat
rons in the best manner possi-
hle, at the least profitable
price. The growth of the bus
iness itself is the most con
clusive proof of its success.
We commend our cash re
bate plan as a good business
proposition for you, and a
profitable one for ourselves;
and solicit your trade on tiffs
basis.
