OFFICE UPSTAIRS IN THE WILCOXON BLDG THE FATE OF A FAKER. Forced by the News’ volleys of solid shot to attempt u defense of its attitude in the guliernutorial campaign, but still dodging and equivocating, the Hero and Agon ize r of last week printed a wordy editorial, which merely served to Strengthen the public’s conviction that Georgia's greatest and wisest weekly is playing the part of a cheap political faker in this cam paign. This is the Hero and Agoni/.er’s favorite stunt. It has often before essayed the sleeping lion role. However, as it gladly and hurriedly flocked td his standard and constituted itself his chief lieutenant and main news paper mouthpiece. All of which forms a v ery nice explanation and one which would explain if it were not for the fact that the whole story is one of those fakes which have made the Hero and Agoni/er famous throughout the State as a machine finished pollyticiun of the first magnitude. It is utterly useless for the H. mid A. to deny that it was u warm and consistent supporter of How-1 ell up to the time of Hr. Nunnally’s announcement. The admission is made that it would have supported Howell in preference to Smith had Hr. Normally not entered the field. Why did the II. mid A. not tell the whole truth and say it hud been supporting Howell for twelve months when l)r. Xinitially made his announcement? The paper’s own columns prove this !'aet;scores of people in this county have per sonal knowledge of the fact; and tiie II. and A. never attempted to conceal or deny the fact until af ter it hud Hopped on the question of supporting u gubernatorial can didate.
