John Robinson, a negro who burglarized a negro house near Madras a few days ago, was jailed by Sheriff Brown last Wednesday. Charlie Cole has returned to Xewnan from Montgomery and has aecepted the position of book keeper for the Xewnan Hardware Co. Col. W. C. Wright went up to Atlanta yesterday to accompany Mrs. Wright home. The friends of this estimable lady will be pleas ed to learn that her health has been entirely restored. Work on the new telephone line from Franklin to Xewnan will be* gin within a few days. It will be party line, and will enable Xewnan and Franklin to converse free of charge. Those who use the line, however, must be subscribers for ’phones. The Heard County Citizen is the name of a new paper published at Franklin by C. S. Harrington. The first issue of the Citizen ap peared on July 4th. The G. W. Meyer bankrupt stock of merchandise in this city was sold last Tuesday to J. E. Reeves, of Vaughn's Station. He bought the entire stock. Fulton Milner has returned to I Atlanta, after a visit to the home! ; folks in Xewnan. Fulton now has a good position with the Southern Express Co. in that city. McCiitchen spent the past two weeks in Heard county looking after business interests there. He has owned and operat ed a newspaper there for some twenty-live years, and seems never to tire of talking and writing of the wonderful resources of his na tive county which need develop ment. Owing to the session of the Chautauqua at the time, there will be no meeting of the Good Samari tans on the fifth Tuesday night in July, as announced at last meet ing of the order. A meeting will be called early thereafter if mem bers desire it and will advise their wishes to the high priest of the chapter. In last week’s News in the ar ticle in reference to the Manufac turers’ National Bank the name of R. O. Jones, Esq., was omitted from the list of chief promoters of this enterprise. The omission did not occur, however, through the negligence of the News, as the gentleman who furnished the News its information about the new bank failed to mention Mr. Jones as one of the interested parties. We learn that the Atlanta, Bir mingham X Atlantic Railroad has at last definitely decided its route to Atlanta. The road will not go from Warm Springs, as at first re ported, but will go from Chaly beate Springs. It will not go to Greenville, missing that city by about ten miles, but will go by Woodbury.
