No pen alty for “repeating.” The latest is a Portland cement trust! It is believed this trust will stick as well, or better, than the others. ter many years of service. Down here in Georgia servants don’t stay long enough to allow employers to form such strong attachments. Candidate Peeples was not the candidate of enough people. Kiehard B. rustled some in that roll for an Appellate .Judgeship. Can you make a noisy like help ing to boost Newnanf II you can, get busy. There are now thirteen unlucky ex-candidates for judges of the ('ourt of A ppeals. Uvidently a deadlock smith is badly needed in that First District <'ongresslonal convention. P is said there is $12,000,000 in American gold in . the Cuban treasury. Now we know why the rebels wanted to capture Havana, j - ' * - Bomb was thrown at General Dumbad/.e, of SebastopoJ,recently, , but as the bomb missed the mark, it was not as dumbadzetmighthave been. The Macon mob was clearly out classed by the Atlanta rioters, and this fact will doubtless add further to the ill feeling existing between Macon and Atlanta. Judge Samuel B. Adams, of Savannah, who has declined to ac cept a Congressional nomination that is equivalent to election, will miss a splendid opportunity if he fails to go on the lecture platform immediately. Paradoxical as it may appear, the adoption of simplified spelling would cause lots of confusion. Forty-three children instead of 2.’J are causing trouble for Joseph Smith, head of the Mormon church. It is said there are numberless females in Cuba eligible for mem bership in a D. R. organiza tion. The Hon. S. G. McLendon, Tom Crenshaw’s opponent, is alllieted with rheumatism, but lie didn’t experience any diflieulty in walk ing away from Tom. Arkansas whiskey killed two men in a short time after they got loaded. This confirms suspicion that quality of whiskey nowadays is very bad—as well as men who drink It. Macon man was lined #50 lo calise he hugged young lady by “accident.” Hugging should al ways be done by design instead of “accident,” and with full consent of the hugee. The coal dealers of the South eastern states will hold a conven tion in Atlanta next week. Doubt less they will resolve to “make it ! warm” for the public during the It’s Ben Hill county now, and Geoiftin has 140 counties. Good-bye, boys! Comeback in about lour years. You’ll lie needed then. The New Court of Appeals. Tlie new court of appeals will begin operation on January I, 11)07, following the regular elec tion of the three judges in Novem ber. For some time, at least, this conrt^irill use the supreme court room for its sessions, so arranging tin* schedule that the two courts will not conflict. It will open with a docket suffi cient to keep the three justices busy, fora large percentage of the October docket of the supreme court will be transferred to it. The terms of the three justices just nominated will run two, four and six years. The judges will determine among 'themselves by lot who shall have the two, four and six years. A presiding justice will be selected by the three among their own number. As the terms expire, a new judge is to be chosen by the people for a full term of six years. Two will constitute a quo rum in deciding eases. The new court will have juris diction over eases which do not in volve the constitution of the State and United States or the constitu tionality of an act of the general assembly. When such issues arise in cases brought before the court of appeals, that question will , be referred to the supreme court, which will render an opinion to lie embodied in the decision of the court of appeals. The decisions of the supreme court are binding on the court of appeals as precedents. The court will elect its own clerk and sheriff. Logan Bleck ley, for many years the efficient and popular deputy clerk of the Supreme Court, will be clerk of the new court of appeals. That is a guarantee that Hie machinery of the court will lie correctly and ex peditiously administered from its inception. , The stenographer of the supreme court will sertfe the court of ap peals until other provisions are made. • The salaries of the judges will lie #4,000 per annum and that of the clerk of the court will lie the same.' Itis ultimately the purpose to pro vide separate quarters for the, court of appeals. It is not im probable that the large room on the third iloor of the eapitol, south west corner, will lie lilted up for that purpose. There are several rooms on this floor that could be used as pYivate offices for the j udges.—The Georgian. V U tit G. E,. Lines Written on the Death of Mrs. Martha Orr Wynn. \jntimely seems the death of your be loved, Cruel the frost tlint fell upon your flower; But this remember, God is wise nnd good, And nil tilings move according to bis power. Ouinisolence knows nil things nnd guides the plan; There is *io chance, nor hnpponing dark and blind; Trust in thnt wisdom, lean npon that love, And you shall surely sweetest solace find. Yet you must weep, as with a breaking heart, A'ou sadly gaze upon the vacant chair, j And think of her torn from your arms apart, And she so young,so loving and so fair! But she is still your own though called! nwav; She has but entered on the rest above; Gone to the mansion of celestial day, Where all is joy and light nnd ponce nnd lovo. She still is yours, O, yes, she still is yours, Though she has left for ayi) the earthly home; And waiting at tire portals of tho skies Will give glad welcome to you when you come, She is nt rest—sweet rest lias oome at last— Nor shall she taste of earth’s sad suf fering more; For all life's pains and sorrows now are p past, And she lias safely reached the heav enly shore. Remember God will suffer none to fall Who trust His love and bow beneath the rod; A Father’s ear is listening to your call; Then dry your tears and leave it all with God. —Rev. .1, S. Hardaway. Newnnu, Ga., Got. 1,- 1900. G. R. BRADLEY’S 1 The Drug Store Down to Date •••• This store never loses step with the march of business progress. In every particular it is right down to date. The store, the stock and our business methods prove this. We move with the great, irresistible march of twentieth century business push and enterprise and are always found at the head of the procession. These .statements of facts are not made in a boast fit] spirit, but in order to point a moral for the trading public, it is this: Years of experience in this line of trade and constant study of the business and constant striving to improve our stock and business methods, should and do count for some thing; and the meaning is this: We know howto buy goods of first quality so they can be sold at reasonable prices. We furnish prompt and reliable service. What more can any patron ask? If you buy here you get the best .in all the lines we handle, and at prices evidently as low as high class goods can be sold. Add to this prompt service, and the corabi- natioiT'supplies all that any drug store can do for its patrons. • The foregoing are facts and apply with \equal force to all drugs, chemicals, medicines and the immense variety of sundries carried instock in this store. If you are not our customer, you ought to be; and if given the opportunity, we’ll merit your patronage. G. R. Speaking of Secretaries Taft and Bacon and what they found in Cuba, that pa per says: “They found, to their infinite disappointment, that every patriot had'first and foremost a private axe to grind, and that he would sacrifice his country readily if he were permitted to advance his own interests. Such shuffling and shifting, such lying, twisting, meanness, irresponsibility and dis regard of country never were seen. And the people who fomented the revolution and carried it on were the same. Palma’s administration i had its faults, no doubt, but all ! observers declare tyiat the result ! would have been the same under jany administration:” This smart sack has the broad shouldered effect that makes the ufuler-weight man look athletic. Note the distinc tive cut of the lapels, the imposing breadth of shoulders—its a coat as stylish as any one can desire. You may choose this model, or single-breasted sack, if yon prefer it, in Worsted, cheviot, tweed, gray and blacks, at #12.50 to #20.
